Alice and Mad Hatter DIY Costumes + Hair and Makeup!

mr. rabbit, well, take me,hello guys okay so I'm first gonna start, out with my face makeup and I'm using a,NYX BB cream and putting that all over,my face and it's a little bit paler than,my natural skin tone because I want to,wash my face out like the Mad Hatter and, then I'm just going to use my Sonia,Kashuk concealer to cover up all the, redness and discoloration so I'm just, going to use that and apply that with a,concealing brush and then once I am done, with that I am going to highlight using,my age rewind concealer and I'm using, two shades of these concealers and the,one is to cover my under-eye circles and,it's the more tan one and the lighter, one is as a highlighter on my cheekbones, and my nose and then I'm just going to,use my concealer brush and just make, sure I blend all of that underneath my,eyes and on top of my cheekbones,so I'm now going to prime my eyes with,my Mac's painterly paint-pot,primer before I do this crazy eye makeup, and then I'm going to use my makeup, forever HD powder to wet out my face and,to set my foundation so I'm going to use,a fluffy brush for that and then I'm,going to use this mac aqua blue color, and putting that all over my lid because, the Mad Hatter has a solid blue, foundation for their eye makeup and then,I'm applying this hot pink color from my,outer crease and blending it toward my,inner eye and I'm just blending that all, together with the blue but at the same, time you want one end to be hot pink and,one to be blue,so now I'm going to use this orange, color from NYX and I'm going to use an,angled brush and sweep that underneath,my waterlines and then I am going to,blend that and the pink together with a,fluffy brush to make sure it all looks, whole and that is the eye shadow and now,we're going to move on to the lashes I'm,going to use a purple mascara for my top, lashes because the Mad Hatter has crazy, makeup and I thought what would be any, more better than a card mascara so then,I'm going to use a bright blue mascara, for my bottom lashes and then I'm going,to fill in my eyebrows with that same, orange eye shadow because the Mad Hatter, has orange thick eyebrows so I'm going,to do that and I thought that added that,Mad Hatter feel to the makeup look and, then I'm just going to put my gel for my,eyebrows in my eye so that way my,eyebrows stay one shape all night and, then I'm going to finish off the look, with this super bright blush because the,Mad Hatter is pale with crazy eye makeup, and crazy blush and then I'm just going,to put on this bright hot pink lipstick, and then that will basically finish the, entire look and this is my mad hatter, crazy amazingly awesome makeup,so I'm first going to start by cutting, three by twelve card stock and I'm going,to cut that out with my handy nifty, scissor tool knife thing which is,awesome and then I'm just going to roll,it into this little roll thing like that, and use some masking tape just to keep, that in shape and then I'm going to take,a candle which is slightly bigger than, that circle I made and go over another, circle on some card stock and cut that, out as the top of my little Mad Hatter, hat and then I'm just going to use a,glue gun and go on the edges and also, apply some glue onto that circle that we,just cut out and make sure that those, are stuck together and press that onto, your other circle so that way it doesn't,move anywhere and then I'm just going to,go along the outer edges with the glue, gun to make sure it's all secure and in,place and doesn't move around so now I'm,going to use my glue gun and put the, glue on the edges of the circle that we,cut out and roll it on to this green, fabric I got because I decided to have a,green Mad Hatter hat you can use any, fabric you want but I thought the green, was very Mad Hatter and you're just, going to roll it around into that fabric, and it's okay there's a lot of extra, fabric because you can just cut it off,and I'm going to make sure I glue that, shut and cut off all the excess fabric, and tuck in the excess fabric into the, hole of my hat and now I'm going to use,the same candle to trace out another, circle and I'm going to glue that on top,of the area that didn't get covered by,the fabric now I will be gluing some, bias tape onto the top part of my hat,and this makes it look more neater and,the edges look more put together and,it's a good finish for any edge or top, part of anything on this hat,so then I will bend some wire in the, shape of a circle a little bit bigger, than the top part of my hat that I made, and then I'm just simply going to use, masking tape to hold the wire in the, circle shape that I shaped it to be and, then once I'm done doing that I'm going,to use some hot glue to stick the same, green fabric I used before but onto this, bottom part and I'm just going to keep, putting the glue around the wire and cut, excess fabric and just keep gluing and, sticking the fabric onto the circle and,I'm just going to keep doing that and, doing the same thing over and over until, the fabric covers the entire circle on,one side and then I'm just going to cut,off excess fabric but then you'll see,one side looks good on one side looks, super scrappy so I'm just going to cut, with excess fabric another circle to,place on to the part that on to the side, that doesn't look as good as the other, side so I'm just going to put that, fabric there and then I'm going to do,what I did on the hat and use bias tape, and glue that onto the edges of this, bottom part of the Hat because it just, finishes it off and makes it look neater, than it would if I didn't use it so then,I'm going to add this thick blue ribbon,to the middle part of the Hat and I'm,going to cut that off and glue it with a,hot glue gun and then I'm just going to,hot glue the Hat I made to this simple, black headband which I got from a,Halloween store and that is how you make, the Hat guys, now Alice doesn't have the tightest of,curls so I did do some tight curls onto,my hair extensions and my natural hair, and I did not hairspray them so that, they would fall into like a voluminous,Larry kind of blowout look so I,definitely suggest to not spray them but, they look good for now but they will, look just like Alice later and I'm going,to pin my bangs to the side of my ear so,that when I put in my cute bow headband,my hairs will stay place right behind my,ear and I'm just hair spraying them for, just extra support and that is the hair, and now I'm going to show you how to do,this cute apron and it's very simple and, easy I just bought some black ribbon, from Hobby Lobby and I'm just cutting, that and placing that into a cute little, bow and cutting off the ends and gluing, that into the center and the top of the, apron and to create a cute little fun, little girl look I am just going to add, some buttons I also purchased at Hobby,Lobby I'm just lining up four of them, down and I'm taking some black lace I,also purchased a Hobby Lobby and I am,just gluing those to the pockets to add,a little bit of an ALICE Flair so I'm,going to tell you guys where I got my,Mad Hatter outfit from and I got my,scarf from Amazon my orange jacket from,Blair calm my two skirts I am wearing, two skirts I have the green one from,Target the blue underneath from a,costume store my tights from a costume, store and yeah that's where I got my,costume, this Alice costume is very easy to,recreate just use a blue dress a light, blue dress that you own because the, front isn't going to matter you're just, gonna place an apron on top of it,anyways and I'm using the apron that I,also got from Amazon along with my light, blue dress and I am using white, stockings from the Halloween store and, these costume black mary-jane looking, shoes and the headband is from Amazon, righty guys that was our Alice in,Wonderland and Mad Hatter look video, also comment below any more videos you'd,like to see us do and give this video a,big thumbs up if you really liked it and, want more videos from this fall series, see you guys,Oh

How to Make: A Last-Minute Alice in Wonderland Costume

How to Make: A Last-Minute Alice in Wonderland Costume

kitchen get ready for what i don't know, hello it's me again do you love me i've,been expecting you,no hello it's me again this time i'm in,my sister's room she moved up,so it's mine now as many of you know i,am in fact,a theater person being a theater person, means that i know a lot of other, theater people my theatrical connections, means that i am frequently called upon,to do random theater things for my,friends, for example today i got a text from my,dear friend melina that just said,do you have five minutes today to do me,the biggest favor ever,do you want to slash can you film a 30,second video being alice from alive and, wait alive in wonderland for my kids, this week, and since i have nothing else going on,don't worry i'm applying for jobs,i said yes even though i do not in fact, have an alice in wonderland costume,at all so today my project is,macgyvering an alice in wonderland, costume out of whatever random crap i,have in my house,a little comment on my costuming or as i,like to call it closet curation, first of all i don't have a sewing, machine that means that i can't make, anything by hand and i can't really make, any permanent alterations unless i want,to hand sew the whole thing which let's,just face it,that's a lot of work second of all, whatever i end up making i want to be,able to take apart at the end of the day,and wear in its originally intended, state or else used to macgyver other, costumes out of later third of all,it's cost effective i don't have to,purchase anything to make all of the, random crap that i am making, and fourthly it's more environmentally, conscious to reuse the random, crap you already have in your house than,to go out in the world and buy and make, new crap,as usual i would say follow along but i,doubt that any of you have the same, random crap at your house that i do,and it's voice over time the first thing, you're going to need is a large piece of,blue fabric,or an old bed sheet next you're going to,want to take that sheet and cut it into,a giant circle with a smaller circle in,the center if you're wondering how to,gauge the size of the inner circle you,can take a strip of fabric wrap it,around your waist to make a waistband, out of it that's the desired width you'd,like it,use that to then mark your center circle, and then sew it into the center circle, adding fasteners if you'd like moving on,to the top half you're going to want to,grab a light blue t-shirt of any ilk,i'm going to be using this hair t-shirt,that i got when i saw the national, touring production when i was 13 years, old, don't worry too much if it has a logo, because that will not be seen once we,put our pinafore on,then we're going to call upon our, hoarder bag of ribbons and select a nice, thin white ribbon to use around the, sleeves, this next part's kind of hard to show, but i basically took a bunch of safety, pins and pinned them around the inside, sleeve of the t-shirt i then flipped the, sleeve right side out wove the white, ribbon through the pins from the outside, and tied it into a little bow after, bunching the fabric up around my arm to,make it look a little bit like a puffed, sleeve,i then repeated the same process on the, other sleeve made sure they both fit,and then we were ready to move on to the, collar for the collar you're going to,want to grab all those scraps from the, sheet you cut up and make two little,semi-circles and cut them out and safety, pin them onto your shirt to make it look,a little neater since i'm not sewing, down the edges or anything i added a,little tiny bow in the center, bows just make everything prettier then, take a break and use all those scraps to,make yourself a little couch,a really little couch moving right along, because we are late for a very important, date we're going to move on to the, pinafore for the top of the pinafore,we're going to just use a white or cream, colored tank top of some kind to put, over our blouse, that's literally it for the top half for,the apron part of your pinafore you're,going to want a white rectangle of,fabric that could be a pillow case or a,square of scrap fabric or if you're me,it's going to be this blouse with blue, flowers on the front because it has a,plain white nice background,i'm going to then use some ribbon to tie, that to my waist and that's going to be,it for my pinafore,if this is sounding a little chaotic, don't worry because it looks okay in the,end especially if you accessorize, accessories such as white tights or knee, socks black buckled shoes which if you, don't have you can use black ballet, flats with two black hair ties around, the arch of your foot, and if you don't feel like dyeing your, hair you can always use a blonde wig,and to top it all off we're going to,grab a black headband and a black ribbon, and tie the ribbon to the headband in a,nice little bow and that will tie, everything together, pun intended,oh thank you so much for saving me

DIY Alice in Wonderland apron from a thrifted tablecloth

DIY Alice in Wonderland apron from a thrifted tablecloth

is it normally 100 degrees in wonderland, hello welcome if you're new hi my name,is laurel, something you may or may not know about,me is that i love the fantastical, the whimsical and you might be able to,tell, that by the contents of my room my,boyfriend would describe it,as if you turned a corner too fast you, might knock something off of a shelf, that was 100 years old,and frankly that's the greatest, compliment i could ever receive, something i've been wanting to do for a,really long time is to make,a white kind of frilly apron similar to,the one that alice wears in,alice wonderland i love that movie so,much i love how, weird and just nonsensical it is i love, making, photoshop edits based off of alice in,wonderland,i love i guess cosplaying as her you, could say,i could either find something online and,buy it from maybe,a not so sustainable source or something, that's kind of fast fashion,or i could make one myself so that's,what we're going to do,i've currently got some piping hot, moderna in my arms so i can't raise my,arm past about, right there so i thought it'd be fun to,just kind of,sit down just kind of chat and make a,little apron, have a little bit of escapism this, weekend and pretend i'm alice in,wonderland, well i'd love for you to come and join,me on this, whimsical journey that we're about to,embark on,i haven't decided if this video will go,up before my,room makeover or not so if you are, seeing it before stay tuned,it's coming very soon i'm almost done, there are just a couple more touches i,want to put on this room, and just really make sure it's perfect, before the internet sees it i did, thrift two different kinds of white, fabric this is the one i initially, thought would be perfect for the apron, because,i think it's a tablecloth and honestly i,think it might be 100 linen which is,awesome so soft and lightweight,i think this would be perfect for an,apron i don't have really a pattern,i'm just going to kind of wing it and,we're going to try to make this as easy,as possible so if you want to follow, along at home, you're more than welcome to do so i have, been sewing for, many many years off and on i'm by no,means a pro,but i have made a few successful items,in the past, let's get started alright ladies and, gentlemen,so the first thing i did was measure the, distance from my waist,to the bottom of where i wanted that, apron to go measure across, and cut with my very dull scissors, the tablecloth that i used came with, this finished edge, which made a really nice edge for the, apron,so i measured and made sure that it,would look good once all those pleats, were in,i just cut two strips off of the white, the same length that i did the apron, because what i'm thinking for the, waistband, and the tie this isn't quite enough, fabric in the back to make that big,bow that she has i think what i'm going,to do is,sew these two pieces i'm going to cut, these little ends off sew these two, pieces together,to make a really long waistband and tie,and then i'm also going to fold this in,half,to make it a little bit more sturdier, and finish off those, rough seams as well i'm kind of working, off of this, general image i like the ruffly, sleeves for the ruffle since i'm not, going off of any kind of a pattern,i think that it's kind of just the this, general, shape and then kind of gather it to make, that ruffle,i definitely want this straight neckline, and then i think i will do,cross in the back because i think that, looks kind of cute as well, okay for that front part of the apron or,the bodice,i just measured a general measurement, across my bust and how high, from the waist i wanted it to go i took, that measurement across, and then doubled the length so that i,could fold that piece of fabric,in half to make it a little bit less,see-through,now for this part i used a metal tape, measure but i recommend using a fabric, one,i just measured the part from my waist, across my shoulder across my back to,where i wanted the cross of the strap to,be,i took that measurement cut out a piece,of fabric, about six inches across cut that in half,so that there would be two, straps then i decided i wanted the, ruffle to be,longer than the strap to have room for,the pleating and,cut a general circly, shape across as evenly as i could, then i cut that in two to make two, ruffles, what i've done so far is i took the, waistband, strips originally i had those two but, what i did is i cut one of them in half, and sewed them on to each end because i,realized,if i just do two the middle would have, the seam, and i don't really want the middle of,the waistband to have that seam,so they're kind of tucked behind there,be a part of more of the tie, rather than the waistband itself i think,i have all of my pieces, cut that i need i'm gonna go in and, finish off the end of this ruffle, here and then we will get to sewing the, rest of this and see if it turns out, sort of how i pictured it okay let's see, what we have so far we have the skirt, waistband the little front, booby apron part the two ruffles, that will attach to these straps and, then those straps will make kind of a,cross, and attach to the waistband in the back, now we're going to attach, the waistband to the skirt and then,we're also going to do some pleats so,that it gets kind of a swooshy, bustled effect i made marks with these, pins right here, just so i would know kind of where i,want, the actual skirt of the apron to start, and end,i'm going to take the full width of the, skirt which is,pretty long but i wanted enough so that,i had that room to do those pleats, there are a couple different ways you,can do hand plating but this is the way, that i like to do it,i start by putting a pin in the middle,of my fabric, and then finding a halfway point in,between each of those, and then just going in and doing another, halfway point between those,so that you know that each part is,exactly even and you have enough room to,do pleating across the whole, piece of fabric i also made sure, that my pleating faced inward towards, the middle so one side was to the left, like you see here, and one side went to the right so i just, pinned everything in place, and then once i'm done i'll be able to,flip over this piece of fabric, and sandwich it all so it's hidden, then when you're ready to sew you should, just be able to sew right over your pins,so everything stays, perfectly in place and once you're done, just take out all the pins, but look at her look at that,it's coming along man, okay okay now i'm going to sew the, bodice,to the waistband and i also still need,to do,the ruffles on the straps here i have, the two, ruffle sleeves and i pretty much did the, same thing,as the skirt and the waistband i just, hand pleated these roughly parts,to the sleeve band i did them like an,inch or two apart for all of them, and then i made sure that i did opposite,so that there would be a left and a,right shoulder so this one, when i fold this over this one,if you're looking at me wearing it this, will be on my left, and then that one will be on the right,so then this part,up here will connect to the back,i honestly think this is one of my,favorite parts about sewing is just, sewing right over those pins and then, taking them all out,it's just i don't know it's a good, feeling now on to the reveal,i've been usurped, okay well here's the finished product, honestly i think my bar must have been, set, really low because you know better than,i expected especially for just kind of,winging it,and not going off of any kind of a,pattern i'm really pleased with it,i think i should probably press a few, things, like this i'm really glad i did the, linen, over the like more cottony bed sheet, material i love, this finished edge that came with the, tablecloth,i think it works perfectly for, this apron the sleeves while i really, like them, they feel a little bit on the droopy, side,i probably could have put a little bit, more pleating in there i might end up,going and then making them a little, shorter if i really decide to,but otherwise i think it's so stinking, cute, the back i was worried that it would be,too long in the back, and there wouldn't be a little bit of a,gap in between, the skirt and i really like how it looks, with it almost completely closed it,almost like looks like a pinafore which,i guess you could technically call this,a pinafore at this point, apron pinafore i really really like it,and, considering that it was a thrifty piece,of fabric makes you feel a bit better, and i'm giving life to something that, someone didn't want,so that was always a good feeling i hope, you enjoyed this video if you like this, kind of stuff i know this is a little, different than my regular stuff on this, channel if you like it though please be,sure to give it a thumbs up so that i,know to make, more of these kinds of videos i,appreciate you thank you for sticking, around to this video i hope you enjoyed, and i will see you in the next one bye,you

DIY Mad Hatter NO SEW Costume Tutu Dress - Alice in Wonderland

DIY Mad Hatter NO SEW Costume Tutu Dress - Alice in Wonderland

to start on mad hatter's hat i just used, some scrapbooking paper that you can get,at the craft store and i cut a large, circle for the bottom of the hat i liked, the scrapbooking paper because it was,two different patterns on both sides and, then i used another piece and cut just a,long strip out of it and rolled it into,a circle but then i made the bottom of,the circle a little bit smaller so it,gives it kind of that top hat look and, then i'm gonna just hot glue it closed, and um making sure that i keep one of,the sides smaller than the other and, then i'm going to trace the top of the,hat um onto another piece of paper and,cut it out and it's okay if it's a,little bit too big because that'll help, you glue it on so i'm just going to glue, around the rim of the top and then place, that piece of paper on and then i'm,going to trim off the extra so that it's,flush with the top of the circle this, hat only cost me a couple of dollars and,it was so cute and fun when it was done,so then i'm just going to cut little, notches out of the bottom so i can fold, those in to give it more of a base to,glue onto the rim of the hat i'm just, gonna pop some hot glue onto that and, then flip it over and stick it on it,might not look perfect but we're gonna, take a ribbon and wrap it around and, then just kind of glue that on in a,crisscross on the bottom and then i took, three flowers and decorated it i had, these on hand but you can get flowers at,the dollar store the craft store, wherever you want and then i just hot, glued them where i wanted them and then,i was doing more of a girly kind of mad, hatter so i did the 10 over 6 which, happens to be my birthday which i never, noticed until like this year um and then,i just did 10 over 6 onto a little piece,of white extra scrapbooking paper and, then glued that in there and then i hot, glued it onto one of my headbands that i,used for my mickey ears and, found that if you turn the hat upside, down and then glue the headband onto it,it works a lot better so just leave it,there to dry and then we're going to,make the dress we're going to use a blue, top and green tool if you want more, details on how to do that make sure you, watch the first princess videos of this, series, and then we're going to use yellow and, blue felt for his vest and his uh shirt, under his vest so i cut these um they're,kind of like i don't know triangles with, some notches out of them you can it's,not a very hard shape i believe in you,and then we're gonna do a large triangle, out of the blue for his shirt that will, look like it's going under his little, vest and then so we're gonna put it all, together and then for our,um ribbon i am going to,put it in so that it ties like a bow tie,in front i think i started by putting it,on like that and didn't like it,afterwards so i'm just gonna hot glue, all my pieces on,and get them all set where they're,supposed to go i'm using my ironing, board to,kind of like a dress form because they, don't have a dress form and then i'm,going to take the ribbon and tie it so,that it goes around the neck and then, comes out in the front so that it looks, like a bow tie and then that is mad, hatter super fun and super creative and, super easy so if you guys do it tag me,on instagram i want to see your, halloween photos love you guys bye

already had these rabbit, ears leftover from the dollar bin during, the Easter but if you're not crazy like,me who keeps every holiday thing ever, and it's going to have a video this,Friday about how to DIY your own animal, ears so keep an eye or an ear out for, that but for mine I decided to just add,a finishing touch to these by adding, some pink lace inside the ears so I just, cut down the lace and trim to the top,and bottom so they fit inside the ears, nicely and then I put a line of hot glue, down the inside of the year pressed in,the lace and glued down any edges that, were sticking up and there you go an,easy pair of cute rabbit ears the next, thing to the I why is a heart to put on,the front of your shirt grab some red, felt fold it in half and cut out half of,a heart, then when you unfold it you have an,entire heart you could leave it like, this but to finish it off a little more,I threaded a large needle with this red,and white string and did a back stitch, around the entire edge of the heart this, just makes it look like you put a little, bit of effort into it even though it,only takes a few minutes to make so now,I don't want to glue it on to my shirt,or put holes in my shirt by pinning it,so instead I'm going to use magnets to,hold it onto the shirt so just hot glue, three magnets to the back of the heart, and then place it on your shirt and put, three more magnets inside you can adjust, this as much as you need and then you,a fully removable hearts decoration on,any shirt that you like and finally the, last DIY piece for this costume is this, giant pocket watch I just think it adds,a fun touch to the costume and makes it,feel even more Alice in Wonderland where, everything just seems to be the wrong, size so to make this you'll need to,start with a simple wall clock I got, mine online for about $10 begin by,prying up the front clear cover and then, removing the clock face you should be,able to easily remove it by cutting up,the bottom and just pulling it out but, make sure to keep this for later since, you'll need to measure it for the, replacement now it's time to build the,top of the pocket watch this ended up,being surprisingly difficult so you, could skip this step but I'll show you,how I did it I grabbed to the inside of,a small embroidery hoop a large wooden, spool and the ends to some curtain rods, that I never hung get a large tube of,e6000 and being generous with the amount,of glue that you use lay the curtain rod,end into the spool once that's set glue, the spool into the inside of the hoop I,ended up having to engineer a stand of,various heights to keep the whole, contraption together while it dried but,if you have a clamp that probably would, have been easier to let that dry for, several hours and then using a lot of,blue again glue it to the top of the, clock and let that dry overnight in the, morning tape off the clock hands and, take it outside choose pre painted gold, you can also spray paint a large chain, unless the one you have is already gold,in which case just leave it make sure to,also flip the clock over to paint the, back while that's drying measure the, clock face you removed earlier and then, find an image of a pocketwatch face that, you like on the internet resize that in,Photoshop to be the same size as your, wall clock and Photoshop out the clock, hands from the original image then print, that out and use an exacto knife to cut,it out,and make sure to also cut out a small, hole in the center for the clock hands, then cut another slit up the bottom and,use double-sided tape to place it inside, the clock replace the clear front and, you're almost done just take the chain, and use a large jump ring to attach it,around the hoop and then you're done, with your oversized pocket watch so,let's see how I put the entire outfit, together starting from the top I'm,wearing my lazy rabbit ears then I have,a red heart necklace just to add a,little more of a decorative touch and, then I have on a simple white tank top, with the heart embellishment that we,made earlier I'm also wearing this, steampunk esque lace top which was a,lucky find at the clothing store Ross, and then I also have on a houndstooth, skirt from Ross and some black fishnet, tights and then I'm wearing these white, fur leg warmers which I bought online, but they would be easy enough to DIY,with some white fur fabric from the, craft store and finally I'm wearing, these wedges which I rarely wear outside,of the house because they're really tall, and then I just safety-pin the chain, from the pocket watch into the fake, pocket of my top and I'm just carrying, the pocket watch with me for a finishing, touch so if you wanted to make this, costume obviously you don't have to wear, the exact same clothes as me you can be,really creative with your clothing, choices depending on which adaption of,Alice in Wonderland you want to emulate, but I think the ears and a pocket watch, whether oversized or not really just, make the costume and if you have a,blonde friend with a blue dress they, could dress up as Alice and you would be,a perfect partner costume so that's,going to be it from me for today I,cannot wait to see what costumes the, other girls come up with all week long, thank you guys so much for watching HGTV,handmade,I will see you all next time good run

Alice in Wonderland Dress - Red Queen Court Costume - Part 1: Understructure (Corset)

Alice in Wonderland Dress - Red Queen Court Costume - Part 1: Understructure (Corset)

hello I'm Bellamy welcome to my channel,in today's video we're gonna take a look,at part one of making Alice's red court, dress from the live action Alice,Wunderland with any costume replicas the, first part is to figure out the, understructure, whether that is the corset or the, petticoats or hoop skirts or just a,combination of all that in this video,we're gonna look at the under bodice of,the dress that I'm replicating and this, under bodice is the collet the base of,the fashion fabric all the fashion, fabric will be tacked down to this and,it'll keep all those unique draping, aspects of the outer fashion fabric in,place next week we'll look at the, construction of the petticoats which, have yards and yards of tulle and I am,currently in the process of assembling, and ruffling all that tool and I'm going,a little stir-crazy with all of that but,I am so close to being finished and I,will have the video on constructing that, next week and then the following week,we'll look at the outer fashion fabric, and the draping and such but for right, now let's dive into the details of the, understructure the first step to pretty, much any project is the draft a draft is,really the most important part of,anything that you will ever do because,if you make a good draft and get a good, pattern for your costume your final, costume will be good and just like your, draft so if you make your draft, perfectly and fit it and it's just a,good fitting bodice or whatever you're,making you now know that your final, product will be like that also so I,first started out with draping a bodice, and,I didn't really have anything to copy on,this because it's all gonna be covered,up with the fashion fabric so I didn't,have to worry too much about the correct, lines for the outer of the Alice dress, because it's just gonna be covered up I,kind of just designed this under bodice, how I wanted it to be designed the one, part that I really wanted to make sure I,got right was the placement of the, closure of the bodice you'll see here in,this picture that there's a very, distinct line here at the back and since, you can't really see anything like this, around the rest of the bodice I figured, this is where the closure was and so I,did place my zipper at the side that, matched that area and I just put a,temporary zipper on this under bodice I,won't put the final invisible zipper in,until I draped the outer bodice and I,can sew it all together into an,invisible zipper that's really the only, part that I made sure I replicated in,this under bodice because really, everything else is gonna be covered up,so once I made this first rough draft I,cut it out and then I smoothed down the, pattern is the best way to describe it I,kind of knew what areas I needed to add,a little bit or take away a little bit I,just kind of played around with the, pattern and tracing the paper and I,guess that you could call this my first, rough draft pattern and once I got that, cut out I now made a second draft and, this draft was more of my final draft I,made some very slight adjustments but, mostly it fit perfectly and I was really, happy about that so once that final, draft was really perfect for what I,wanted I went ahead and cut out my,actual bodice so there are three fabrics, that I'm going to use for this bodice, that don't include the fashion fabric, the fashion fabric will be added later, but the three fabrics I use are a white, satin and that's the outer side of the, bodice under that as a interlining, that's sewn in with the satin is a,cotton muslin and then for the lining, using a red sign there's really no,reason why I chose red I just thought,it'd be fun to have that in the inside,so I cut all three of these fabrics out, because they're gonna be the same, pattern but the outside fashion fabric, which is not this white it'll be a,stripe shear with black stripes which, are actually ribbons that I'll sew on,but that would be a completely different, pattern so I didn't mess with that at,all, right now it's just basically a separate, under bodice so it's satin muslin and,the red lining once I got that cut out I,could start sewing so I did want to the, muslin and the satin to be sewn in,together, that's called a interlining and that, just gives good stability to the bodice, and the satin fabric that I'm using I,set aside the red lining for now I'm,gonna assemble that later it doesn't,have to be attached to the very end and,I just focused on the muslin and the, satin so I just matched the pattern, pieces of the muslin and the satin, together I got those pinned together and, then I pinned the whole bodice pieces, together and not that so I did not baste, the Muslim to the satin before I sewed, the whole bodice together that's,something I sometimes skimp on depending,on what my fabrics doing I felt like I,could control it well enough that I,didn't have a bunch of slipping and such,so for this bodice I didn't do that I,was a little bit lazy but I usually do,baste it either even if I machine baste,it it does help with slipping and that's,something I would recommend doing if,you're just having trouble keeping all, those four layers together as you're,sewing the bodice together once I got, that sewn the next step is to iron open, the scene before ironing the seams open,a good practice is to iron the seam that, you just sewed you aren't manipulating, the fabric or anything you're just I,mean it and that basically syncs the, stitches and thread and such into the, fabric so it kind of melds it together, and that's something I learned from a,class that I took on ironing it's just,an easy thing to do and so,I just go ahead and do it I don't know, how much it helps or not I'm guessing it,does because that's what the person, recommended so I just give it a quick, pressing along those seams just as you, sewed it basically and then I went and I,use my pressing ham and seam roll to,open up the seams this under bodice has, some very sharp curves along the bust I,had to do a lot of maneuvering after, those seams were pressed open I went to,my sewing machine and I tacked down, those seam allowances and how I did that,is I just went on the top side of the, bodice and I made sure my seam allowance, was pressed open and in place and then I,sewed about three-eighths inch from that, seen so a tip for this is always go in,the same direction for me I went from, top to bottom and I went along both, sides of the seam in that same direction, same direction along the whole thing and, that keeps the different fabrics from, not moving in different directions, because of the machine going in,different directions and you get some, wonky things going on another tip, especially with these curved areas I did,sew one and it was very extremely, wrinkled because the seam allowance was, pulling differently than the outer, fabric and it just didn't look good and,so a tip for that you really want to,make sure that you're in control of the,Machine and what it's doing to the, fabric because if you just let the,Machine take the fabric and do what it,wants to do with it it's gonna be quite, wrinkly and so the best way that I came,up with how to explain what you want to,do to achieve a smooth flat seam line I,basically manipulate the fabric so that, when the Machine manipulates it it kind,of pulls it back into place and so you,get a nice smooth seam line and really, just with any sewing, don't let the Machine be in control be,in control of what the machine is doing,to your fabric once I got all those, seams sewn and tack, down I now gave it another final, pressing because pressing is very, important and sewing to get everything, nice and smooth along the whole process,so after I did that the next step was to,attach the bodhi the placement of the, boning it was really just up to what I,felt like I wasn't really going off of,any pattern per se I was just kind of,playing around with the boning until it,looks right and did what I wanted it to,do I just used a plastic boning and I,usually use steel or spiral sometimes, synthetic whalebone but this time just a,basic plastic boning covered in,polyester boning casing just worked for,me and how I attach my boning is I put,it on my dress form, inside out and then I pinned all the, boning channels in place so I have a,side and then the front pieces and these, kind of curve around the bust and then I,have a side and then all the back pieces,so it is a very structured bodice but at,the same time it is plastic boning I,want to call it as structure it as if I,used a steel but neat but basically I,just wanted it structured enough that it,would hold up the strapless dress and, achieve its purpose which is to,basically keep the fashion fabric in,place when I attach the fashion fabric,to this bodice,so I just got the boning sewn in place, sewing along both sides of that plastic, boning and that is really the last step, for this under bodice,if this under structure was a separate, piece so something that would be put on,and then the outer dress put on I would,be making sure all the seams are hidden,I would put the lining on I just do all,the finishing touches but since this is,just under structure that everything, will be tacked to all that will be done,at the end of making a dress so that is,basically it for making this under, structure bodice thing whatever you want,to call it and I hope you enjoyed, watching and maybe learn some things,we'll come back to this Alice dress, replica for the next three weeks, next week we'll look into the petticoat, which is a bunch of red and black tulle, and a lot of ruffles and in the, following week we'll look at the outer, dress so basically the fashion fabric, that's going to be draped and such and,I'm pretty sure that will fit in all, that video and then the following week, will be a basically a costume showcase, just a fun video put together that will, just show the finished dress so be,looking out for that but for now that's,it for this video I hope you enjoyed, thanks for watching and be sure to leave,a comment ask me any questions you want,in the comment section give this video a,thumbs up and also subscribe to my,channel if you want to see the rest of,this video series about replicating,Alice's red court dress and then also I,have another exciting project coming, your way, this spring hopefully sooner and for now,go out into your own sewing area and, learn create and inspire

DIY Costumes: Alice in Wonderland

DIY Costumes: Alice in Wonderland

hi,welcome to the public library virtual, program it's october which means it's,going to be diy, costume making month today's inspiration, comes from lewis carroll's alice in,wonderland when alice gets so big that, she can't fit inside mr rabbit's house, let's check out her materials we've got,a box that you can fit inside of,i've got construction paper for the, walls and the doors,a hot glue gun and sticks some sharpie,i've got spray paint, project tape scissors and a ruler, the first step of our project is to,create the roof we'll get the box flaps, and cut them, and we'll glue them together but you're,going to leave enough space at the top,so your head can fit through, then we'll cut the bottom flaps off for, your legs i'm going to hold off on,cutting the armholes until i've spray, painted it and it's dry just so that, doesn't get on your clothes, before i spray paint though i want to,get a plastic tarp, and i'm going to cover the table just so,it doesn't get anything on it,so,so,so,so,so,so now that my pink house is dry we're,going to focus on the roof,i've got two flaps that have scored, edges with the scissors, and i'm going to be able to bend those,in and hot glue them to the side so our, roof is going to end up looking like, this and on the top there's space for my,head to fit through, once i finish with that i'm going to,grab my leftover cardboard pieces, and i'm going to put it at the edge and, then i'm going to spray paint this top, part brown, now that i've got my house painted i've,got to add windows and doors and any, other decorations,i have an 11 by 17 sheet of white, construction paper,i'm going to fold it once i'm going to,fold it twice, and then i'm going to fold it a third, time i'll cut each of these squares out, into six pieces, that's going to be your windows once i'm,finished cutting them out,i'll get a border for the each window, and then you can draw in any design you, like, once i'm finished with the windows i'll,add a door mine's going to be,yellow,so,in our last step before we finish the, house what are we missing we've got to,add the windows and the doors and any, other decorations that you want,i've got this project tape that's gold, and sparkly that i'm going to add as a,little decoration, because i want a sort of german, traditional house, after we finish putting on all the, decorations with a hot glue gun,we're going to cut the armholes out make, sure that before you cut the armholes, you're putting the box on and making, sure that the roof is completely below, your head, you want the armholes to match where, your shoulders are hitting the board,so you're going to cut it out at that, point,so,now that you're finished with your house, you can put it on and show it off, alice is wearing white stockings and a,blue skirt so if you put that on,underneath, you've got your alice in wonderland, house later if you want you can add, shingles or other decorations to the, house,to make it more unique, you
