Making Renaissance Costumes IN ONE DAY[ish]
oh hey there why so glum well let me,guess you want to go to the Renaissance, fair but you only have two days to,prepare and you're making a costume for, yourself and a friend and you have a,surplus of curtains and bed sheets, you've been hoarding for years that you, don't know what to do with yeah well, you've come to the right place I can, teach you how to sew two outfits in a,match what if I'm afraid of needles you, could use a hot glue gun but what if I'm,allergic to heat fine no don't cry sorry,I have a solution for you too you should, check out thredup my favorite and the, only online consignment store I use, you'll love it in fact the outfit you're,wearing right now is from thredup this,Windsor top was originally 38 dollars, but I got it for 18.99 these Zara jeans, were originally 45.90 but I got them for,26 bucks and these Franco Sarto boots, were originally 127 but I paid 54. but,how did you get it on me without me,remember who cares about that let's look,at some Renaissance inspired outfits, this unbranded lace-up top had an,original estimated retail price of 25,but I got it for 12.99 and it's being, worn over this and Taylor Loft peasant, leg top originally 64. but I got it for, just 19.99 it also looks great with this, top from the brand don't ask why, originally 25.99 up price just 10 bucks, and why is the brand called that well I,don't ask why and probably my favorite, piece of all this unbranded embroidered, vest originally 51 but I paid half that,I also really love this LSI skirt, originally 24 but only 14 on thredup, okay where are these looks really, historically accurate have you ever even, been to a Renaissance Fair well most, people's goal isn't really to look, accurate so much as to look like a drunk, fairy that smells bad a sort of dirt bag, look if you will I'm just a Dark Age,dirt bag baby that's the spirit so how,do you use thredup well do you have a,phone no check your pits well I usually, start by swiping my preference over to,women and we're talking about thread up,not tender then I filter it by brand, usually selecting Zara after that I,browse my options and click the hard on,whatever I can't live without that's how,I found this star address original price,48 dollars but I paid 24. and then my,favorite thread up outfit so far I paid,24 bucks for these Sheen pants that were, originally 48. I paid nine bucks for, this imagination mesh top that I wear, under basically everything lately it was, originally twenty dollars and then this, string cheese like poly top was, originally 48 but I only paid 15. 99 and,if you want to be a clone of me well, thredup has a new feature where you can, follow the link in my description and, find dupes of the stuff I wear in this, video so check out thredup and make sure,to use my code Makara for an extra 30,off your first order thanks for, sponsoring this video thredup but what,if I'm not afraid of needles or allergic,to heat and I do want to make my own, outfit fine we'll sew some renaissance, costumes okay it's time to get to work, but I just remembered it's the 21st,night of September so,put that grueling first step is over, let's make a chemise hello hi you look, like a golf assistant, after the golf course employee imposter, goes upstairs grab some cheap white, fabric and cut out two layers that are,as long as your body and as wide as two, skateboards fold that in half then cut,out a little neckline and some armholes,at this point it should perfectly fit,the robot from squid game make sure you, hang on to the chunk you cut out of the, neckline because that's going to make, your cap later solve the sides of your, killer robot dress as well as the top of,the straps and fold your entire gigantic, neckline down about an inch iron it in,place and sew a channel now cut out some, gigantic floopy sleeves fun fact the, recent Renaissance dresses have such, voluminous sleeves because renaissance, fair food is super expensive and you're,not allowed to bring your own food in,and as you know Renaissance Ferris were,a really big part of the Renaissance Era,hence the reason we call it the,Renaissance Era so our ancestors would, stuff their sleeves with sandwiches, smuggling them into the fair you know I,realized recently I don't like giving, sewing instructions then I thought I,have to give sewing instructions this is,my job but then I looked at my budget, and realized I have enough money to,survive like a year so why don't I just, take a year to not do my job well and to,use my voiceovers to instead focus on my,passion which is lying about history I,don't know maybe I'll do a mix of both, anyway that little garm only took a,couple hours to make then I went to bed, with the intention of making an entire, peasant costume the next day, good morning not gonna lie I felt rough, and even my trip to Starbucks didn't fix,it,so I woke up feeling a little bit, unmotivated and essentially I was in no,mood to make a whole dress today but, that all changed when I received a very, encouraging and sweet Snapchat from my,nephew hi makira we don't want to kill, you anymore like if you take out the, word anymore that's like a totally sweet, message you know what they say with a,little bit of encouragement and the, right outfit you can take on almost, anything I feel like this is just not, totally the vibe so put on something a,little less pairs help a little more, somewhere in time anyway let's make that,I'm running out of time today I don't,feel like I'll have time to make a dress, today but I decided to try anyway so my,nephew's encouragement wouldn't be in,vain got a king-sized bed sheet in half, long ways for one side to the side and, focus on the other this is your front, piece and you're going to cut a little,of the top middle away like so this will, make the front of your skirt a little, shorter than the back hopefully, preventing you from tripping and falling, headfirst into a Kilted Stormtrooper, like a stormtrooper in a kilt you're,bound to run into one edit Renaissance,Fairs are weird and the culture is,really hard to explain if you've never, been to one after joining the skirt, panels together thou must hem at the, bottom of the skirt will be easiest if,you do it now people often ask makera, why do you have a little quaker parrot, bird and I tell him my job involves a,lot of pinning, and now you know why God made Birds here,I am making a carrying case for my pet, tapeworm just kidding it's a waistband, that's what it was I gather stitched the,top of my skirt then tugged on it till,it fit perfectly within that waistband, okay now that the skirt is done I'm,getting a little please don't hold it,against me if I put my sweatsuit back on,to make this top lay on some fabric then, cut it to fit you or a friend yes you'll,want to make a peasant costume for your, friend before you make an upper class, dress for yourself that way you'll have,a maid all day at the Renaissance Fest, life hacks oh so and iron everything the,way that it goes, sew the front and back pieces together, like so and while we're on the topic of,the word pieces it's racist pieces not,Reese's Pieces the word PCS sounds like, you're combining the words p and feces, and it's not funny I won't put up with,it anymore,it's currently like 1am didn't work on,anything for the whole middle portion of,the day because after making the skirt,Gary and I went to church because, they're really like home then afterwards,I went to my mom to watch Married at,First Sight with her then on the way, home from that I got pulled over why I,honestly think because he was bored I,got this gut feeling that nothing, interesting was going to happen so I,didn't record it like I usually do with, cop stop and boy was I right nothing, interesting happen like you asked my,license and then he went back to his car,and he was back there long enough for me,to read several Snapchat articles about,a useless topic I got pulled over so,much I was playing never have I ever, girl said she had never been pulled over, how I have been pulled over probably 12,times I never I rarely commit crimes I,did illegally stream the show biking, years ago but like on the road they just, pull me over and then uselessness ensues,I don't understand why well by the time, this cop came back his excuse that he,gave was my license plate holder was too, thick like right it's 20 22. there's no,such thing as too thick,um anyway he said he was looking for, drunk drivers and had I been drinking, and I was like no just watching reality,TV with my mom like you should be doing, right now here's the best part he,followed me for so long waiting trying,to think of something to pull me over, for and then when he finally flippers, his little it's right in front of my,house I'll probably edit all of what I,just said out when cutting your zip ties,oh yeah we're adding zip ties is boning, don't know if you caught that make sure, you leave enough room for the top of,your bodice to be folded under and whip, stitched when my last machine needle has, broken so therefore I,live but today I think I clocked a total,of maybe four and a half hours and this,is what I have done giving me pirate, which is completely fine with me with no,working needles I had no choice but to,sit and relax and watch my favorite, movie the oil lamp and force my roomie's,dog to watch it with me I spent the next, couple days at a women's retreat most of,the women from my church stayed in a,dorm but I brought my RV because I,signed up too late and there wasn't room, for me in the dorms that was okay, because then I was able to get some work, done and I was able to relax in our free, time between you know our teamwork, drills and our 3D worship sessions that, first night was kind of creepy though, because I was sitting in my RV in This,SUV kept driving by very slowly so then, finally I was like hey do you guys want,to come in and hang out and they did and,it was a good night I was able to stitch, down the top of my bodice without, feeling so lonely and I know you're like,I figured it out those were probably, just two ladies from your church, nope they're not the next day I went, home and added grommets to the front of,the bodice from it montage,I also added like eight grommets to the, back of the skirt because I wasn't,exactly sure what Courtney's waist, measurements were this way it's pretty, adjustable now if you're sensing that, there's a story behind my slightly, flawed pedicure you'd be correct you see,for that bachelorette party I told you, about we went to a day spa I really took,a shine to the middle aged beautician, who was assigned to me but she wasn't so,concerned with giving me a pedicure so,much explaining what's going to happen,to me when a nuclear bomb comes I talked, about the idea of adding sleeves but due,to a warm forecast coupled with my,desire not to I didn't so I did have to,take the Hem up a touch So Courtney, wouldn't trip over and smash her, beautiful nose if she did though be,really fitting because apparently her, name means short nose next I tried to,make straps but I've gone through eight, sewing machine needles in two days which, tells me it's not the needles it's not,the fabric it's probably the shape I'm,thinking I'll probably have to go out,and buy a new sewing machine and then I,remembered we already did that at some, point guess because this was in my,closet so I'm about to retire this, sewing machine and it's honestly a,little bit emotional this has been with,me since I started YouTube I got this, for my birthday when I was 15. and it,has literally changed my whole life,my entire life I have now I owed to this, machine, foreign,so yeah I did end up making those straps,I put a grommet on each end as well as a,couple grommets on the front and back of,my bodice that way the straps could just, tie on and then we were done waiting all,the stress is missing something no cap,so to make the cap grab that piece you,cut out of your neckline make sure it's,a Barbie doll length tall and three, bananas wide two layers like that sew, them together along the edges leaving a,little hole open then flip it right side, out through that hole iron it down and, banish the little hole from existence, make a few little gathers on the curved, side and try it on if it still doesn't,look good try suing me I dare you and we,have to make a little back for our cat, because back before the Elizabethan era, humans couldn't grow hair in the back of,their heads they always had to wear head, coverings to keep their head warm don't,believe me try to find a photograph from, before the year 1600 that shows someone, with hair on the back of their head I'll,literally venmo you 20 if you can the, only other thing I did on this outfit, was throw a few stitches of embroidery, floss around every single grommet on,that holding bodice it may have been, time consuming but that slight bit of,accuracy it added was totally worth it I,went to bed with the intention of making, this whole dress the next day it's,morning time actually it's like 4pm,spent the first half of the day putting, glitter on my face and staring at this, mark on my pinky because I went to bed, with a rubber band on my braces and I,woke up with it on my pinky and I have,no memory of why now if we're gonna make, this whole costume in a day we just we,can't but we have to spoiler alert it,took like 18 hours split up over the, course of two days friendly reminder if,you're hoping for this week's extremely, historically accurate well, what's that you want to see pictures of,my grandkids oh my reference photos now, you're going to want to violently and, passionately bang your scissors against, your lining fabric leaving you with two, layers that look like this and two, layers that look like this and you're,going to cut out a third layer of each, out of a fancy fabric for mine I'm using, some thrifted curtains um but just for,the record when I do have grandkids I'm,gonna dress them like this by now I'm,sure you've guessed exactly which era,we're going for that's right Dad the, tutor era after adding boning channels,in between the two layers of your lining, fabric aka the part that won't be seen, slap the layer of fancy fabric on top of,that okay here you see me laughing at,Garian because my new sewing machine, makes a sound that he likes to try to,imitate and here you see me feeling 40,more Superior than usual my classic, tutor A-line skirt was comprised of,three curtain panels after sewing them, together I cut the middle one in half, thus giving us two big panels to eat, them in a most regal manner till they, fit inside a waistband that you cut to,fit your waist perfectly throw a sheet,on a bird then throw on some comfy, clothes in which you will whip down the,top of your bodice while watching a show, with a sweatpants clad lad perforate the, back middle edges then when adding, ground comments use someone else's hands, while tending to the blood blisters you, gave yourself from hammering your own, thumb so many times fun fact a long time, ago I was going to use this green velvet,to cover the couch in my RV but I felt, like it was too special for that so then,I was going to use it to make a coat but,I felt like it was too special for that, then finally I decided I was going to,glue it to the wall in my RV bathroom, like make it wallpaper but then I,couldn't find it for like two years so I,used a different wallpaper in the little,RV bathroom and alas I just found it,this week how can you hear a story like, that and still not believe in God now if,you're attempting to travel back in time,12 years and get a job designing, costumes for the early 2000s tutors you,can just like stop here but if you, wanted to look a little more actually, tutor take a strip of fabric finish here, here then after that you're gonna sew it,here here now carefully yank out the bed, sheet from beneath your roommate's,sleeping body you're going to use it to,make a sleeve mock-up or if you're like,me a eight and a half mock-ups and even, then I didn't get it right not that, night anyway I tapped out after about, nine hours of work that day then the, next day it came to my attention that my,dad still hadn't seen the last video I,put out suffice to say from the 11,minute 20 second mark on he really, enjoyed it,thanks Dad I needed that it's the final, day of the project first we're gonna, finish the sleeves and then it's time, for the fun part,no not paintballing the elderly, accessories and decorating what do you, think about that, let's start back in on those sleeves so,you know I usually use one of those, wrist pin cushions today I didn't put it,on however muscle memory did not get the, memo there, you know I should have taken that as a,sign because the day was all downhill, from there remember this the oversleeve,is supposed to be cream and the Bunchy, thing was supposed to be the green, velvet I made a mock-up Bunchy thing and, tried tracing it onto the green velvet, and there wasn't enough to make two of,them so either I had to hack one of my,arms off or start over on the sleeves, and reverse which fabric went where am I,health insurance deductible is really, high so amputation is off the table, unfortunately that means we're starting, over when cutting this shape I recommend, you curve the top part get you am I,kidding you're not making them sometimes,a heavy velvet fabric like this does not, want to hold this doesn't want to hold, the ironedness so my trick for that is,to place a heavy book on it right after, you iron it and leave the book there, till it cools down it's a big historical, fashion book this is a Bible and I know, you're probably thinking it's,sacrilegious to use the Bible like that, don't worry if it's just the message, version probably grand total of four, people who thought that was fine now I,didn't have enough of the cream curtains, left to make the underpuff but luckily I,had a tablecloth that looked very, similar I'm standing here and I'm,singing It's so fun to sing that was Joe,testing my new microphone and here I am,gluing yet another fancy fabric into the, inside of my sleeve just in case they, show a little bit is it a sleeve or a,shoe for bigfoot that's what the fur I'm,gonna shoot straight with you guys, attaching the sleeves to this was a,nightmare I've had more fun waiting in,line at the DMV I've actually had some, really good times in line at the DMV,it's time for the moment we've all been, waiting for it's time to decorate, foreign,a lot of trims to choose from because, not only am I a bit of a hoarder and a,sewer but my grandma was too so I have, two lifetimes worth of trim to go,through anyone ready to play tennis I'm,not because it's 2 A.M but I'm not, allowed to go to bed because we're,leaving for the renaissance fair, tomorrow so guess what we're gonna do,with one of these tennis visors we're,going to make some French hoods a term, originally shortened from French hoodlum, that's a lie named after Ann Berlin who,was French also alive and was famously a,hoodlum did you know she was killed on,my birthday that's surprisingly true to,make a French Hood you need only hot, glue and a Severe passion to drench a,tennis visor in all manner of finery, this is a great way to finally use up,some of those fancy tiny scraps you have, now we must cover the back with some, black fabric just like the noble women,of the time did in a way to sort of make, believe they could grow hair on the back,of their heads with that we're finally, finished let's take a look back at our, sketch to see how the final product, measured up oh drats we forgot the, jewelry I had some time to gather a few,Little Gems the next day before we took, off on our trip and I'm glad I did, because it's there that I met Cody and,how did you find me I saw your car and I,followed you like a total cream he was, genuinely not creepy though and my,favorite person I've met in a long time, tonight we're heading to the town where, the Renaissance Fair is going to be I,almost forgot my Farthing Gale and I was, like oh,and then she tried to pack a candle you, don't know what a farthing Gale is do,you kids these days am I right you have, any other messages if you walk in an,empty they're gonna clean your cup look,at this girl we were in Goodwill and we,were checking out and this girl ran up,to me and she said hey I feel like you, would like this and it was a pink jacket, and I was like oh thanks and I do like,it that was underwhelming after hiding, the historically inaccurate fact that, you have hair It's Time to whip out your,Farthing Gale Don your draperies and, fashion that French hoodlum for the, grand reveal, foreign,to get serious and make the short film,we came to make, once upon a time there was a sweet young,Forest maiden and a rich fancied very, cruel woman her cruelty was due to a bad, mood and her bad mood was due to the, fact that she lived in the Renaissance,Era which smelled very bad one summer, day their paths crossed, upon seeing the disgust of the rich, woman the forest woman felt dismay until, one fateful day she ran into a forest, elf man Joe what are you doing,he informed her of something she could,do to earn the approval of everyone and, could you bunny hop over that bench, she immediately felt a change within her,as Elegance ran through her veins not, long after she ran into the rich cruel,Maiden again and this time she was met, with something different, respect I hope you all learned a,valuable lesson from that story,oh I did let's see what Shenanigans we,can get into an empty stage, after that show which I can't believe, you just got to see for free it's time,to see what other diversions would, strike our fancy one is this not the, cutest freaking Curts you've ever seen,we saw all sorts of bizarre people at,the Renaissance Fair like these guys, okay but really though we did see some, weird things like Woody the cowboy we,passed a Star Wars cult meeting we,passed some perplexing costumes we,passed some impressive costumes and some, really really impressive costumes and he,had that co-overs jeans jeans boots with, the Spurs with the Spurs and then using, children as their little personal, workout tools disgusting I decided to,take up a seat on one such ride deciding, that if I could keep at least one child, from being used in such a way it would, all be worth it,it wasn't,then I engaged in some meaningful, conversations, the wheel of death was almost as,fascinating as this couple that watched, the whole thing laying down hold up did, that guy just spit on them, takes all sorts to make world I guess, anyway as impressive as all those, attractions were I was really determined,to find some more historically accurate, entertainment excuse me do you know, where the public execution,I had the privilege of meeting several,of my loyal subjects subscribers how, long do you think it took me to make my,dress 18 hours, what's your favorite thing about the,Renaissance Festival chicken leg chicken, legs oh now I see why she was a fan of,mine this is Rebecca okay doesn't she, have like the perfect face for, historical drama where both the farmer, guy and the rich guy are in love with, her I wish I had a historical face but,it's okay I have a really good 50 pounds,of makeup face what's the weirdest thing, you've seen at the Renaissance, one guy got hurt and just kind of laid, down a giant ax to the back we saw him, walking around later so he's okay oh,that's good is there anything that you, want thousands of people to know I'd,like to share that I was extremely, preoccupied during this interview, because it was in that moment that I,realized I hadn't seen my purse since I,accidentally left it with this guy so,sorry I was so distracted Rebecca hello,Rebecca's mom who's alive we're gonna, have to try to find my personal making a,drawstring purse is essential for hiding, modern beverages oh I'm crap I wish I,could afford this it's a once in a,lifetime opportunity right there lastly,we fangirled over meeting the queen at,this moment I reflected on how thankful,I was for Courtney and I's friendship oh,it's never really changed changed and I,hope it never does what do you say,Courtney with that we exited the gates, and bid farewell to the Renaissance Fair,ah look how happy this guy is I climbed,up a thing from that vantage point I,spotted our giant steel Chariot oh there,it is and we all drove to a restaurant, and after that we drove home oh wait so,it was the weirdest thing you saw at the,Renaissance Festival there was a beer, night what do you think the weirdest, thing he saw was I don't know let's ask, him, that's the weirdest thing you've seen at,the Renaissance stairs oh man I see some, like plague doctors those are kind of,creepers that's what my dog went out by,the way so to summarize the craziest, thing I saw was the beer night the, craziest thing the beer Knight saw was,my dad so that begs the question what, was the craziest thing my dad saw well,we may never know I think it's safe to,assume that it was this guy who insisted,on putting lotion on my hand but that's,not the crazy part he could speak a,secret language and do you make this, yourself everything is handmade Hearts,do the bees consent to that, yeah did you give me a little uh he,likes my dress no I just said that I,just gave you all 50 states in,alphabetical order that's so impressive, can you do the alphabet backwards now,is so talented back to the beer night, the competitive side of me needed to,know which one of us was the better, costumer last question how long did it,take you to make this three hours, this guy's the winner of the, congratulations your prizes my whole,YouTube channel which can eternally, hovers close to 2 million subscribers, but never quite reaching it that's your, prize as well as the sick discount code,to thrive and remember that code is we,care now everyone follows a link in my,description check out thread Medieval Costume DIY | Starter LARP/FAIR Outfit for 0$
as the resident medieval enthusiast and, expert amongst my friends the task has, always fallen to me to provide costumes, for events such as larps or renaissance, fairs, today i'm showing you how to make your, own basic medieval costume with nothing, but what you already have at home, and sharing some tips about what you, should look to avoid, getting into medieval costuming can be a,little bit intimidating there's lots to,learn lots to look at,tons of historical intricacies and not,to mention,it can be expensive watch on and you'll,see that with the right mindset it,doesn't,have to be in fact these are just my,suggestions i highly encourage you to,do your own research and do your own, experiments to see what you could come,up with, the theme for today's video is start now, have fun,and worry about being perfect later just,as a disclaimer,i am going to be talking mostly to the, guys today because, honestly we need a lot more help with, this stuff,i'm also currently not equipped to,showcase women's clothing because,hi don't worry if you are a fair lady, though i've got you covered you will be,clothed it's just a lot easier for you,to reach into a closet pull out a puffy, sleeve to blouse and, look perfect in fact ladies go ahead and, share this video with a male friend of,yours who needs to get on your level, speaking of levels costumes today are, split into levels, which denote the amount of work that it,takes to put the costumes together, and also the quality of the finished, look so the most basic outfit,is level one and is the absolute barest, minimum, that isn't just blue jeans and sneakers, the materials and cuts, won't be historically accurate but if,you're just, starting if you're actually level one, there's,no reason to be concerned with any of,the rest of that stuff yet,and you'll still be able to put together,a costume, like this for free and when all else, fails remember that a universal rule is,that if you throw a belt on over your, clothing you instantly look, more medieval,so costumes start from the ground up and, just like in real life, guys people notice your shoes,it doesn't matter how good your upper, half looks or how big your sword is if,you're,wearing sneakers boom your immersion is,instantly broken, girls wear boots more often than guys do,so it might not be easy for you to just, reach down and pick up a pair of riding, boots hint, girls that's what you should do if you, have leather boots, wear them they fit i promise unless, they're like, blue but here are some suggestions so,chukkas, actually can pass four medieval shoes, with, the right color uh leather combat boots, like this are also a decent choice, especially if you are going to be,more active or athletic throughout the, day, but if you have chelsea boots or any, variation of an ankle boot with, monk straps those are really the ideal, thing and if you're flat-footed or you, have knee problems or you just want to,be more comfortable throughout the day, what you can do is take the inserts from, your favorite pair of sneakers, and put them into your medieval shoes, for the day now you could buy, inserts but again i'm trying to help you, save money sweatpants or,joggers of any variety will work for, level one, just avoid blue jeans or dress pants, chinos can work depending on what you're,wearing over them i would just say that, the less, pockets that are visible the better you, want to choose, neutral colors not drab colors just, neutral like nothing crazy try to use, pants, with as little elastic as possible but, guys,go for the good old-fashioned sweatpants, you will be,so comfortable i promise you i mean like, you could,go out and buy these but what you're,really paying for,is the proper material and this design, hasn't,changed in centuries now girls if you, want to wear pants, all of these same rules apply to you or,you might have,a wrap skirt that is in this, sort of neo-medieval style or you might, even have a dress that is just,in this early medieval or viking style, henleys are your friends long sleeve, short sleeve henleys can pass, really well for medieval wear i have, these, linen henleys and also these asian, collar style, dress shirts but honestly even cotton, modern, cotton henleys like from h m,work really well now your instinct might,be to reach for a,dress shirt please ignore this instinct,i understand it,i have also done it you look at the, collar you look at the slightly puffy, sleeves and then you look at a pirate, shirt and you think oh,it's perfect no it actually looks,so so odd the collar stiffness and the, cuffs, and then the cut at the bottom of the, shirt just make it look so modern and so,formal don't do it that and pirates, aren't medieval, anyway i mean yes it's called a,renaissance fair but the whole thing is,an anachronism anyway once people get, involved,i mean you have folks dressing up as,skunk witches, henleys you're fine, optionally you can also go for a waffle, textured, thermal underwear sort of shirt like, this, this is obviously a second choice to the, henley but the texture actually adds,a little interesting dimension to your, costume i would say especially do,this if you have something that you are, going to layer,on top of this shirt just to give it a,little bit more depth, gentle women have you a blouse then don,it,rightly if thou a tender bardot top have, two would be perfect you know while i,was doing the research for this video i,looked through articles of like top 30,women's shirt styles and i swear, almost all of them fit for a starting, medieval costume i mean none of them are, historically accurate but they are,all believable i mean everything short,of like athletic wear and spaghetti, straps would pass,in fact let me know if this has happened,to anyone else you're just out shopping, somewhere and then out of the corner of,your eye you see, what's this a slightly medieval looking, garment, badass it's for women, now everything from level one transfers,up to level two the only difference is,that with level two perhaps you've,upgraded the, material type that each of your garments, are made out of,now in addition to those other base, pieces we can add other things for, instance if you have,a long modern sort of trendy knitted, cardigan i don't know how popular, prevalent those are,go ahead and add that you can throw a,belt over it if it's got a hood, nice now that i'm thinking about it,women are probably more likely to have, those, too but a good alternative is if you go,ahead and take,a hoodie that you don't care about, that's neutral colored and doesn't have, any, glaring trademarks on it then go ahead, and cut the sleeves off and then throw a,belt, over that and i was actually surprised, with, how good this looked for what it is,for these outer layer garments of level,2 or above which you really want to,avoid, are halloween costume grade, tabards or tunics or what have you, they're not sized properly their color, schemes can border from neon to almost, plasticky, essentially they just look like costumes, whereas if you wear your own pieces, they'll look less out of place because, they're not costumes they're actually, clothes they were designed,to be clothes and then finally for level, two go ahead and add a blanket cloak all,you need is,a neutral or solid color blanket and a,safety pin, just go ahead and pin it on the, underneath side so that the pin is,invisible and no one will even know that, you're using one they may guess but, they'll never be able to prove it and i,won't tell them it'll be our little, secret, now if you have a blanket that you don't,really care about you can go ahead and, stick a brooch, through it i like that blanket so i'm,not going to demonstrate on it but check, this out if you don't have,a bruce just use a nail a little, medieval hack for you, thin wall mounting pinhead nail and, stick that through the fabric and, that's going to hold and it's not going,to stab you or anything either and, that's almost exactly how the vikings, did their cloaks, now here's a little bit of key insight, here,we're starting small and everyone has to,start somewhere,it's not a race you should set yourself,up for success by not, having expectations higher than you can, feasibly achieve don't aim for costuming,as a knight if you can't afford the gear, yet, and that might sound harsh but it's,actually really cool especially for, larping because then you're,thoughtfully using your costume design,to,tell the story of your character, development i mean ultimately the goal,is to have fun so,do whatever you want but if you can kill,it in a peasant's costume, and look authentic and really good then,do,that get compliments for having an epic, peasant costume, and then build on it later and if you do,use these tips and you get compliments, while you're out make sure to mention me,and raise the banner of my channel to,spread it to new lands, thanks i appreciate you,now level three is for those who want to,put a bit more work, into actually modifying their clothes, without having to make, brand new garments repurposing, recycling nature, everything from level one or level two, obviously also scales up into level, three, but the bad news here is that you will, need to know how to do a,back stitch the good news is that, backstitches are super easy and there is,a,two and a half minute tutorial linked, down in the description box below, now if you missed last week's video i,will go ahead and link that,up here and down in the description, where i showed you how to make, this medieval style cowl with nothing, but,an old hoodie a pair of scissors a,needle and about a,foot of thread it's super easy and it,looks, really good and it literally takes your, costume, from level 1 to level 3 and beyond, this could last you for years before it,needed to be replaced, and it's unisex hoods or unisex, hoods are universal all hail hoods, now take those hoodie sleeves and turn, them, into hoes no get your mind out of the, gutter take a gander at these, you sexy sexy goose no seriously check, these out, these are just my hoodie sleeves and all,i've done,is i've taken a strip of fabric and i've,back stitched them,to the top edge here so that i can tie, them to a rope, around my waist and then you instantly, have this medieval, looking layer added on if you have the, fabric,go ahead and cut two long strips and you,can use them,as leg wraps or arm wraps if you wanted,to,you could use a bit of that old blanket, that you don't care about that's also, going to be your cloak,or you could use the body of the hoodie, that you just cut up repurposing, the whole thing and now you have even, more layers to your costume and layers, really help bring costumes to life they, make them look, lived in and purposeful and if you make, leg wraps like these they're also going,to help, hide whatever elastics you have at the, bottom of your pants and help hide that, modernism a little bit, more and now you have items in your, costume wardrobe that are, color coordinated with each other, thank you for joining me today i really, hope i inspired you to start building, your own medieval costume as always if,you got, value if you liked the video please like, the video and share it with a friend who,you want to go costuming with you to,your next event,if you're joining me for the first time,i want to thank you especially for, watching my video, and i do hope you consider subscribing, and that i see you,in future videos now that you're fully, equipped,go out and have fun and good luck on,your adventures

Making a Medieval Costume from bedding!
Making a Medieval Costume from bedding!
so,hello everyone and welcome to keeping up,with linda today i'm gonna work on,something totally different totally out,of my league we're gonna work on a,medieval costume that's my goal i do not, have professional training on sewing so,but i think i can do it so i'm gonna, start with the chemise and this is what,i did,a bed sheet,a good quality bed sheet if you're like,me if you don't have any professional, training on sewing but if deep inside, you know you can do it try it out what's,there to lose a bet sheet,we can deal with that,so,i'm going to be saving the bottom part, which is actually the top part of the,bed sheet, which is always has the nice finishing,on top and the the aim is already done,so i'm going to be using this as the, bottom,of the chemise so that's done i don't,have to worry about that, these parts here on the side i'm going,to remove but the bottom,it's done for us beautiful,i'm going to fold the sheet in half, lengthwise, because this is a queen sheet it'll give,me enough room, for the dress to have enough, material to go around,so now that i have the material nicely, folded in half i'm going to measure,my model needs 115 centimeters, tall,so i'm going to measure that, and i'm going to mark it,just so i know where to cut the sheet, okay so 115 right here, and i'm gonna use one of these pins to,to mark it,measure it again, again another pin,and again,so,okay so that's gonna be,the height of the chimes,we're gonna be cutting the two sides of,the fabric at the same time,we want to make sure that we don't have, one side that's longer than the other,it's correct over there, and all the way,up,right it's even wish me,there we luck,so i'm cutting slightly above the pins,to make sure that i have, enough um,height, okay so this part, will be used for the for the sleeves and, whatnot right,so now i'm going to,remove the seams that, the the bed sheet has,and create my own sim because,i don't want to keep this it's going to,be too thick,so i'll remove that,it really would work better if,it was ironed, let's remove the pins before we get hurt, wow,so right now this is all one piece but,i'm going to separate it i'm going to,cut the material on this side i'm going,to separate the front part and the back, part, because uh the front part,we want to,make it a little bit lower to do the, neckline right a little bit of a,roundness to it,so again,i pinned it,not too close to the edge because that's,where the scissors are going, all right, now we remove the pins so now,i have, two parts a back part and the front part,so,now the fun begins,no idea where to go from here, now it seems so easy when when when i'm,thinking about it but now that i'm,actually doing it's like um,yeah, what's next,i'll come up with something,so to find out how much i should cut for,the sleeve, what i did was i i used an old blouse, and i measured,so from here to here,or from here to here,to see,how much material i should cut and it's,telling me 25 centimeters so that's what,i'll do also since this is the front, part, and we wanted to do a little bit of um,of a round shape for the for the front, for the neck it's gonna be slightly, lower than the back i think that some, people even leave it at the same um,same height but i'm gonna bring it down,by two centimeters measure here i'm,gonna mark it with the pin,so now from the sleeve,to there, the material is folded,i'm just gonna, cut, this little bit and that will create a,little bit of uh of a round effect for,the for the front part of the chemise,so,from here i just have to cut all the way,to the sleeve, done, now, the sleeve portion,i'm gonna cut it as well,so from here to there, okay let's remove the pin,and now let's see, what this looks like,so,that's one cut one opening for the, sleeve there's the other one on the, other side, and i've created a little bit of a,roundness for the neck part so same, thing for the back for the sleeves,25 centimeters,on the back i'm gonna leave the material, straight i will put elastic on it so,it'll look nice, now i have to figure out how to,cut the sleeves, one thing i know for sure they have to,match this here just so when i'm sewing, the measurements are correct so,always work with extra material it's,better to have more than less this is a,type of chimes that requires a lot of,material because you have to gather it,and create that, that, bulkiness whatever you want to call it,so now what i'm going to do is i'm going,to cut the same 25 centimeters on the, sleeve here,i'm going to do the same thing that i,did on the,the body part, which is that right there so i,positioned it here, and i measured it,and it's the same thing 25 centimeters, the rest of the material goes, over this is the part that's going to go,over the shoulder and then with the, elastic it'll be all gathered so let's,see how that works, the sims of the sleeve, will be at the bottom,it'll be like a nice flow of,the seam of the sleeve and the side of,the dress going down,so i kind of measured one of my blouses,to,kind of know the length for for the arms,so now that i have all four parts cut,i'm gonna start sewing what i have here,is the back part and one of the sleeves,so i'm going to make a seam right here,so i already chose which part of the, material do i want on the outside, and then,we sew it,on the opposite side,it's looking good already there's a sim, right there, now i'm gonna put the other sleeve,i don't know if i'm understanding what,i'm doing but um it'll be okay at the, end,so i'm now sewing the front part of the, chimneys to to the sleeves,i'm just hoping that i'm sewing this, right, because it's quite confusing, all right so now,i'm going to turn it inside out, well,at least all the stitching was done,on one side only which is good, wow this is huge,so it's huge,it's looking like chemise all right i'm,hoping that the elastic will gather the, material in such a way that it doesn't,look so big so far so good,so now i have to sew,the sleeve, and just follow this line, all the way down to,the bottom of the dress,so again i'm going to turn this inside, out,to make sure that the seam is on the, inside and not on the outside,so the dress is sewn,i need to work on the sleeves finishing, the sleeve over here and the top the, gathering of the material now will be,the the trick and that's what's uh gonna, give it the final touch i know what i,want to do,let's see if it works,so here's the elastic that i'm gonna be,using for the whole thing the effect, that i'm trying to get,is basically this one here, right i'm already excited about it,so what i'm doing is i'm starting in the, middle of the back part because i don't,want to finish,my elastic on one of the sleeves or at,the front where we might see a seam or,something so i measure the back and it,measured 80 centimeters so i'm starting,at 40.,and now i'm folding, about 3 centimeters of material and then,i'm actually positioning the elastic, here not on top because if it,flips out we might see the elastic so,i'm gonna put it at the bottom so i'm,gonna be pulling on the elastic, quite a bit, because you know we want the elastic to,be nice and, stretched before i pull i have to,secure the elastic here, with a couple of stitches otherwise it's,going to keep on running away from me,okay it won't run away now, okay so folding my material, and pull on the elastic, quite hard, and stitch, wow, look how cute, right, this is the effect that i'm looking for,and it's working,i see so when we stop we have to make, sure that the needle is always, down,to help secure the material and the, elastic, okay this is my chemise that i just, finished,i'm very happy with it that looks good, after finishing the chemise i realized, that the chimes was a little bit too, short so i've decided to add some length,to it with this frill that was the, bottom of a curtain, creating this beautiful effect and again, inexpensive and voila eshimize,is born,so now the um the dress the actual dress, that goes over the chemise, consists of two things the skirt part, and the top part i'm using bedding again, this i believe is um comforter case,i mean there's a zipper and everything, the skirt will be open at the front so,i've cut in the skirt already i took the, measurements of the waist of my model, and then i i triple that i triple that,in in material because we want the,the gathering of the material to,to be enough to to do a nice effect on,the skirt right so what i'm doing is i'm,taking advantage of the finishing,at the bottom here, that's,done for me already, and it actually, creates weight on the skirt so which, which is nice because it will keep the, skirt down so another advantage of using,a,casing,is that when the skirt opens,we have the same color on the inside as,of the outside i need 98 centimeters, that's the height,98,and the leftover material seam allowance, material i'm going to,fold it in let me just mark here,so now i'm going to do the gathering for,the skirt the measurements that i need,is 59 centimeters, because that's the waist for my,model she's actually 71 but up to here, she's 59 and then there's going to be a,12 centimeter opening at the front so,i've,measured the string,so we fold it,to make it stronger i'll leave just a,little bit of extra for the knot,so all this material now,has to fit in these,59 centimeters of,thread and what i'll do is i'm going to,fold it in,fold it in like that, here we go,i'm going to start the process,by i'm not gonna do it on the edge, right here, because that's pretty much where i want, the the sewing to go after,so i'm gonna do it a little bit, away from the edge,so you just do like large stitches,so that way when you pull, you create, that effect, right, once i've exhausted all the,the thread, then,i know i'm done,so i've exhausted all my thread so i,ended up with 59 centimeters of material, for the waist and that's what we want, now i'm not sewing this by machine just, yet i will be,sewing it together with the top part, and again because there's that uh that, finishing touch, over here,i'm gonna be using that,as an accent on the waist so on top of,the skirt so i'll be sewing it,right above here, and that's when i obviously secure the,top part of the dress to the skirt so i,have this whole bunch of material to to,make the top part so,if it doesn't turn out nice the first, time then i have enough material to do,it a second time all right so creating, the bodice,i'm going to,cut 75 centimeters i don't need that, much but for now, that's what i'm going to start with and,i want to cut my material straight for,now so it'll be 75 centimeters wide, and 50 centimeters tall so again i'm not, using any patterns so,hopefully this will work out we'll see,50,and i'll mark it again in the middle,i'm using just the white, makeup pencil, wish me luck,a little mark, this is like driving, you keep your eye on the road,so we're almost done here so i'm going,to sew, along here, and i'm going to secure the straps right, there, and then i'm gonna join them on the, shoulder, right i'm gonna be sewing it here, and then, ready, now for buttons i found these guys, they're not exactly what i had in mind, but i couldn't find anything else and, now,i kind of like them they're kind of cute, and since i'm going to use a ribbon,to tie up the dress, these loops will serve, for the ribbon to to go through and i,think it's gonna look really pretty,so i'm on my last one here and then,we're gonna put the ribbon this is,pretty much done i'm really excited, before we move on to the ribbon i just, want to show you the dress how cute it,looks this is the the waist where the, bodice meets the actual skirt, quite, magnificent, now it's ribbon time, yay, and of course it had to be green so i'm,gonna start on top,so i'm gonna do a crisscross effect here, just like in the renaissance times or,viking times, trying to keep it straight it's not that, simple, all right, make a large bowl, and it just falls, down the dress,oh i'm so excited to see the shimmies, inside the dress now,and the moment of truth, since i already put the ribbon on,i'm just going to dress it up like this, adjust it here, wow it's so cute, wow,so beautiful, look at that, now how pretty is this, that's beautiful oh my god,i'm so proud of myself look at this guys, like i said if you can dream it you can,do it,just keep trying it's so cute i love the, outcome,do,i had so much fun making that medieval, costume for my daughter and the outcome, was so beautiful that i decided to make, one for myself it feels so good wearing,it it makes me feel like a woman from, those renaissance, slush medieval times it's really amazing,so if you can dream it you can do it and, again very inexpensive and it's a,beautiful beautiful costume i'm just, loving it all right guys this is it,thank you so much for watching, keep on subscribing and don't forget to,keep up with linda ciao

⚔️ How to THRIFT for Renaissance Faire & Fantasy Core Outfits - Thrift Tips & Tricks Part 1
⚔️ How to THRIFT for Renaissance Faire & Fantasy Core Outfits - Thrift Tips & Tricks Part 1
well hello welcome to my tavern this is,actually empty, welcome back to my channel if you're one,of my friends and uh welcome if you are,new today we're going to be doing a fun, video so if you saw my last video you, know that i love renfers and i go as,often as i can it's part of my content,on my other platforms and i'm slowly, trying to integrate all of my content, styles onto youtube as well so that it's,not just thrifting although today's,video does have to do with rifting so,you're kind of getting a little bit of,both so next week i am actually going to,another rent fair i'm going with my,friend danica and a bunch of other, friends and it's actually a lot bigger,of a run fair than the last one that we,went to so it's going to be a fun time, now i've been really wanting to do this, video ever since i did a short little, series on tick tock about thrifting for, rent fair garb in which i just showed, some examples of some mostly thrifted, slash affordable rent fair outfits and, since then the video is still going, strong even though it's been months and,i'm still getting comments of people, saying things like yes but you must have, great thrift stores because i can't,thrift those types of items or i don't,know how to thrift for rent fares or,they don't carry my size so i wanted to,make a little bit more of an in-depth,video on not only how to put together, rinfer inspired outfits from thrifted, pieces but also give you guys some tips,on what to look for when you are, thrifting because as i've stated in,those videos there's i'll link the, playlist down below but basically the,key to a good ren faire outfit isn't,necessarily finding extravagant, extravagant pieces like this one or this, top but it's finding some basic pieces, that have kind of a fantasy slash, renaissance flair but then styling it,and layering it in a way that gets the, point across if you know what i mean,it'll it'll become more clear as the, video goes on so first section of this, video we're going to be talking about, how to source basic pieces that you can, layer in your rent fair outfits online, there's different places where you can, thrift online like thredup poshmark and, depop i'm a little bit more familiar, with depop and thredup i've only bought, like a few things from poshmark i'm a,little bit more intimidated because it's,a lot bigger and i'm drifting less on,depop lately but it is really useful for, looking for key terms poshmark as well, thread up is a little bit more, complicated but i'm going to explain the, second section of this video is i'm,going to be showing you what to look for, when you go to thrift stores now i'm not, going to be doing a demonstration of me,going out and thrift in this video but,the next video part two i'm actually, going to go out and source some items so,if you want to watch that make sure, you're subscribed make sure you like, this video make sure you hit the bell, notification because this is going to be,kind of part of a series and right now,it's the perfect time because though i,don't celebrate halloween the thrift, stores are putting out like costumey, stuff they kind of hoard the costumey, stuff and save it for this time of year,so a little bit of a preview from one of,my tips and then the last part of this, video i'm actually going to be,announcing another what not show i have, one coming up at the end of this week, relevance of when it is when you're,watching depends on when i get this, video out but i'm gonna be doing a,fantasy slash run fair inspired, show, sale on whatnot i'll be showing you guys,a few pieces that i'm going to be,selling and, yeah let's dive right into the thrift, tips so because i'm lazy and i don't,like to leave my house one of my,favorite places to source items is,thredup is it the most cost-effective,place to source items not really it,depends on what brand you're buying, sometimes you can find good deals if you, stack the coupons right you know it,works but it's great for finding very, specific pieces and so i'm going to talk, about some filters so the first piece, that i wanted to show off you can't,really see hold on let me zip this up is,this piece right here as you can see,it's extremely like princess core run, fair it's got the, lace up front it does have a zip up back, and it's a bit too tight but i'm going,to be taking the zipper out and adding, grommets so you know thrift flipping, stuff is a great thing to do as well, basically how i found this piece is i,like to just go into the tops section, women's tops and then i adjust the, search filters after that so first of,all when i was looking for this specific, piece i clicked the sweetheart neck, under neckline and that would basically, bring up all items with a sweetheart, neckline and then i went down to details, and selected lace-up now sometimes, thredup doesn't put things under, categories that it would fit under so,not all lace-up items are going to show,up under lace-up unfortunately but it's,at least a good place to start if you're,looking for more of like a core city top,and other than that it to find a corset, top that's probably the best way now if,i was looking for more of a peasant top, like this one which i actually found in,store but just as an example this is,another one where i might put lace up,although i would remove the the tag for, sweetheart neckline and i might put,v-neck or i might just put i might not,put neckline at all i would also make, sure i put long sleeve length if i'm,looking for something with long sleeves, and of course you can also toggle by,color so if you're looking for a,specific color you could go in and, select the colors that you're looking, for another one of my favorite, parameters or filters is square neckline, you'll find a lot of tops like this one,i think i had it set to both sweetheart, and square when i found this you can, also add ruching and when you add ruche, sometimes you'll get like the poofy, sleeves um you do have to scroll down, and really look for things you're gonna, see a lot of stuff that you're not, interested in you can also select ruffle, and that is another way that you can, that's another way you can find hops, like this again not all items are going,to have the relevant details listed so,you might have to keep changing your, combinations to find different pieces, but that's just one way especially if,you're not too concerned about brand, that's one way that you can kind of find, things in the style that you're looking, for you could also i think one of them, too is what is it shoulder cut you can, search by off the shoulder as well, strapless if you're looking for strap, something that's strapless so those are, just a few things to help you kind of,dig through because i know there's a lot,of stuff on thredup now if you are, looking for things on depop it's a,little bit easier because people are, more likely to list things based on the, aesthetic that it falls under however, there's some people that inappropriately, add keywords and you're gonna find some, irrelevant things but some things you,can put if you're searching for specific, aesthetic you can put like hobbit core, fairy core nightcore royal core you know, the words of course it's kind of the, newer styles you can also search for, like vintage vests vintage corset this,is actually from the 90s this one i,found this one at goodwill in the, halloween section which again is going,to be part of like we're going to be,thrifting together in the next video but, this is sometimes they'll sometimes you,can search for vintage pieces that have, kind of that look that you're looking, for um you don't necessarily need a,period accurate piece because most, people these days especially don't go,for the reenactment historical fashion, aspect of ren faires they'll go in their, own like original character fantasy, character they'll they'll wear elf ears,or wings or,big flower crowns it's it's a lot of fun,and you can really make your own look, and i try to come up with a new look, every time it goes so and because of,thrifting i have kind of an extensive, collection so we're going to keep moving,on let me show you guys another piece, now this isn't strictly run fair but, again if you build up pieces and layer, them accordingly you can kind of like, show i don't know you can express the, style without finding rigid like costume, pieces so this is a victoria's secret, velvet top and velvet is a really nice, texture to incorporate when you're,layering because it kind of adds a,little bit more detail so i really love, crush velvet and velvet and this is,really comfortable it's very thin so,what i would do with this is if i just, had like a basic top i would layer this, over the top of it and then to give it a,more like corset look they have these, corset style belts which let me grab it,okay you know what it's actually my,suitcase that i haven't unpacked because,i was away for the weekend doing photo, shoots with a friend but i'm gonna pop,up an image that's from my amazon, storefront i've collected a few pieces, that you can add to your rent fair or,your rent fair wardrobe so there's just, basic belts and like skirt hikes and, things in that list but, these belts are perfect for layering, over the top of pieces that you want to,add a corset detail if you haven't quite, found the right corset because when it,comes to like actual bone corsets you, want to get something that's a little, bit higher quality for comfort and also,if you want it to like last and this is,more on along the lines of like a casual, fantasy core like let's say you're not, going to a rent fair but you're looking, for pieces that you can wear like let's,say it's like a multi-day festival and,you want something for casual when, you're not at the fair these types of,pieces are really cool i found this at,goodwill this is just a basic cotton,t-shirt it's i think it's from the 90s,but it's super cute this was actually, going to be part of my sale and i stole,it but again if you're looking to look,up this piece like on poshmark or depop,um this is the brand, but also if you're looking on thredup, you might put lace up as one of the, details um you can search the brand also,v-neck sometimes you just gotta dig now, this piece is very similar to the amazon, cottage core dress that a lot of people, use as the base of their their, renaissance fair outfits i have quite a,few of these in other colors but i found, this one on thredup actually second hand, which is always nice when you can find, things secondhand and how i found this,is similar to how i found the tops i,just went into the dress section and i,put in a square neckline and i believe i,also put in the skirt length either midi,or calf length i'm not quite sure i,would try both separately because, sometimes different things show up some, things are listed as calf length some, things are listed as midi you just gotta, keep digging and looking and trying, different search parameters in order to,find the things that you're looking for,but the brand is our yaposha if you, don't want to thrift it you can also buy,it from amazon but again i'm just giving, you guys tips on how to find things, secondhand and then here is another, piece as well that i i think i hauled, this i got this in new york at a vintage, store el train vintage so if you're in,the new york area um l-train has a,couple different locations there's one, where there's like a smaller shop and, then a bigger shop right next to it i'll,put the address on the screen and in the, description and i really love this piece, although it's a little bit too big and,i'm trying to decide if i want to sell,it in my show or not i'm not really sure, yet now as far as looking in thrift, stores it's kind of about persistence, and luck you just have to look through, and see what they have which i know, that's not very helpful but what i try,to look for are you know those kind of,round neck peasant drawstring tops like, the ones that i showed you and then i,have a few others that i can show you,let me actually just show you some, things that are going to be in my store, here are some tops that i recently found,at different thrift stores we have this, one which is super cute this is a very, popular style right now which can be,styled to be more um like red fair fairy, core if you know layered with other, pieces and then we have this is this is,another like kind of peasant style top, this is actually a new dot do deck a new,day which is a target brand which by the,way if you're looking for brands to look,on thredup i would search different, target brands like a new day who what, where any others that i can think of,later in post i'll put on the screen old, navy also had a lot of these like, peasant blouses and cottage core blouses, that can be styled for rent fair so i,would check those brands out but i've,been seeing these a lot at just my,normal thrift store and they do run big,so this is a small this would probably, fit a medium or large because she's very, flowy we have another one it's a little, bit different i i wanted to get a,variety of different styles and then, this one's more of a peplum style but,can be layered as well so these are just, the types of tops that i've been finding, lately um i would just check all the, sections all the different because, sometimes they're in the long sleeves, sometimes they're in the off or if they, have an off shoulder section but, sometimes they're in the tank tops, and then i have quite a few people, telling me that oh that's fun but only, straight sized people can thrift for, rent fares that is not true this is a 3x,that i will have in my show and don't,worry i didn't buy up all the rent fair, appropriate clothing items from my,thrift store i just picked up a couple, pieces there were quite a few pieces, that i left that can be thrifted by,someone else but i just wanted to show, you guys an example that it is possible,to thrift plus size pieces that can be,styled for a rent fair um this beautiful, top is i don't know the brand but i saw, quite a few tops like this at my local, thrift store because this besides for,run fairs it is a popular style just in,like the mainstream so it's all about, finding basic pieces that you can style,in ways that make it look,i don't know you know what you know what,i'm saying i don't know what i'm saying, but you know what i'm saying it's all, about styling now we've mostly talked, about dresses and tops you know just to,recap you know we've got the square, neckline the sweetheart neckline the,v-neck v-neck with the tie or the,lace-up got long sleeves and three, quarter sleeves but what about skirts, this is the type of skirt that i tend to,go for this really flowy kind of cottony, style skirt you can get some with some, lace details i really like the tiered, look it's very organic and looks very, whimsical so this paired with let's say,i don't know if you can see let's say i,styled this skirt with this and then, over the top i might put one of those, one of those corset belts and then maybe, another belt and a skirt hike and then, just tie it up finding little basic, pieces like this that you can mix and, match if you're planning on going to,more than one red fair is it you know,it's pretty useful and then if you this,is your style you can just wear this, normal if you wanna i do all the time, belts what do you look for in belts i,like leather that's what she said, specifically natural real leather belts, are probably the best first of all they, are going to last you the longest and, you'll probably wear them in other, contexts as well next they just look, nicer and look more authentic honestly, what i really love about leather belts,is they mold to you after you wear them, for a certain period of time as the, leather gets softer it starts to kind of,form to your your your curves i've had,one of my belts for more than like 12,years and i've honestly worn it so much, and it's lasted me and it it fits me so,good and i use that thing all the time, both for my own fashion and also for, renaissance fairs it is my favorite belt, but this is one that i recently picked,up this is sorry that's just a string, that i attached but this is this really, cool ah there we go,kind of etched style belt i don't really, know the specific term for this style of,belt but i really love this and then um,then mmm where is it sorry i'm like, really unorganized,i also picked up these leather belts, more recently this one is a gap belt and, this one is a,timberland belt which is actually a,really good brand by the way, sorry i'm like not in focus and my,intention was to buy these to make skirt, hikes but now i'm looking at these, they're so good i wonder if i should, just use them but i am making skirt, hikes hopefully they'll be done for the, show if not future show but these are, really nice um genuine leather belts, usually you'll find these in the men's,section rather than the women's section,i'm pretty sure these are men's belts, but even if they don't fit let's say, like if it's a men's belt and it's too,big you can add holes if you get one of,those hole punches that's the great, thing about real leather is that it can, take it whereas if you take a faux, leather belt and try to put a new hole,in it it might fray and rip and all that, stuff the one that i was talking about, that's been my ride or die belt for, years i've added so many of my own holes,to it and it's as long as you like, condition the leather like you would, your shoe your real other shoes it's,gonna last you forever so these belts, are great you can also look for more, statement knee belts these ones won't,necessarily be real leather but i really, love this waist belt,it looks super piratey and it has like, the elastic here um this is really great,to put around the waist um if you don't,have one of those corset belt things and, even if you do you can layer that's the, thing layering the belt layering the, accessories that's the key layers and, finding things with really interesting, buckles um so you can sometimes change, out the actual belt itself like let's,say you find a belt with a really ornate, amazing buckle and the actual belt part,is crap or it's tacky just diy that get,two belts get one belt where you like, the actual, belt part and,um you don't really care about the, buckle and just marry them together and,it's perfect and you'll have a unique, belt that no one else has yeah so always, check just check every section when, you're going to the thrift store and, also just try to look at things for, their potential even if it's like a,basic item that you don't think is,extravagant or amazing you can always, layer things and i know i keep saying, that on broken record but like some of,those tops they're they just look like, basic summer tops but if you try to,think about them in a way try to,visualize it and kind of look and see,how other people are styling things like, that uh look for inspiration like on,instagram my instagram is linked below, and you can kind of think of new ways, that you can style it to make it look, more unique and definitely check out the, original video that i talked about, thrifting for rent fairs because i do,show some examples of outfits that i've,made with pieces that i've thrifted, shoes what do i do about shoes, these are my tried and true adventure, boots they have seen better days but, these were thrifted they don't have the, sole of the heel anymore because i have, worn them so much they are crap but i,love them they look good with all my,outfits i do have a healed version of,these but they are murder on my feet and,i do not recommend do not recommend but,the brand of these is breckles no i,don't know what that is but,i got them at goodwill speaking of,goodwill i also got these recently at,goodwill i love these because they're,more steampunk they've got that spats, look so always check the shoes um you, never know what you're gonna find, especially now that they're putting, boots out the perfect time they are a,bit big on me they're a size eight and i,have tiny calves and so these are, definitely more of a tuck pants into, kind of boots not a wear with a dress, kind of boot but if you're going for, more of a steampunk look i definitely, recommend this style of boot with like, the little buttons you can totally diy, that as well i've done it uh did you, know that you can use googly eyes for, fake studs and just paint it the more, you know, this is another pair that i thrifted and,i get questions about these all the time, the brand is naturalizer but i scored, these at goodwill and i have had them, for years these are real leather and, they have a good, solid heel so they don't hurt my feet,i've actually worn them to a couple run, fairs and my feet did not hurt at the,end um that's the great thing about, naturalizer they're so comfortable, they're like cushy and they have a lot,of support definitely find shoes with, support or don't plan on walking a lot,i'm still trying to figure out like,non-boot version of shoes i'm gonna put,up some inspiration of things that i'm,looking for i'm probably gonna end up,diying something like maybe finding some, ballet flats and adding some like lacing,to kind of make it look like peasant, shoes or peasant what are they called, and i and i want something that's like, pointed and then like lacing but yeah so,lace-up boots are honestly you can't go,wrong i definitely recommend those all, right so we're kind of doing a haul but,not i picked up these pieces for my show, this is an h m tiered dress in an xl,this kind of has similar vibes as that, skirt that i showed you earlier and i'm,going to put up a picture of me kind of,modeling it attempting to model it but, this is a perfect layering piece, dropping it foundation for an outfit as,well as this dress now this is also a 3x,and this would be really great with a,like some belt over the top of it or,maybe one of those corset belts since it,has a lot of detail on the shoulder i,wouldn't go with a corset with straps, maybe something more with um like an,underbust kind of situation which i know,i'm going to get questions about what, about thrifting corsets good luck with, that darling it's really hard i'm i'm,lucky i found this one i would say your, best bet is probably to buy one or make, one which if you're skilled enough to,make one i have a friend that's making, one i i wouldn't count on thrifting a,corset definitely search local, businesses i'll have some etsy shops, linked in the description if you're,looking for a corset and here are some, more casual like fantasy core pieces i,really love this dress and i'm very, tempted to keep it um look at those, sleeves so cute this is for if like, again like that one top if you want to,be fantasy but in everyday life i'm also, going to be linking a video in the, description by my friend kiki she made a,video about how to incorporate fantasy, style in your everyday outfits so that's,why i haven't really tried tread treaded,i haven't really talked about that that, much this is kind of a similar dress to,the other one but it's shorter sleeves, higher neck but it has like a ruffly, looking sleeve super cute and this is,another piece that i'm going to be,selling this is a new with tags express, wrap top and it has really beautiful, details and is very very core very very, small too small for me and i don't,usually thrift forever 21 but this is a,really cool kind of a ranger-esque tunic, can be worn as a dress if you're shorter, but it could also be layered with some, trousers or a skirt i have this which i,got off thread up and then i end up not, liking how it looked on me but it's a,romper with a little lace-up detail here, and it's very very elfy fairy kind of,tinkerbell and this is from my own, collection i'm selling it it is a tunic,by who what where again that brand has, some perfect pieces and this is how i,styled it i actually layered it with, pants a corset and the corset belt and,my belt i love that look one of my posts, that i did for it got like 10 000 likes, which is more than i've ever gotten on a,static post but yeah so those are just a,few of the pieces not everything is,listed yet i'm still working on that and,i need to source some more things so,that's coming right at you guys i know i,haven't covered pants and trousers that, one i'm still kind of getting a feel for,i'm a little bit more comfortable with, dresses and skirts when it comes to red, fair garb but perhaps in part two we,will cover how to look for pants and, trousers if you want to do more of a,ranger more of a masculine look i do,have a video on doing a more masculine, look for rent fair as well as how to,deal with the heat so those videos are,in the playlist that i'm linking it's on,tick tock they're shorter videos so if,you if you're interested in how i would, style looks for that that'll be that, that'll be in that that playlist so i,didn't want to have to tread on that, again but oh but if you are looking for, like what colors to look for when it,comes to trousers of course brown olive, green are great you can even go for, black i do have some pants that are, technically in the men's section but can,be styled by anyone um they are also in,the um,amazon, storefront not thrifted but it's,if you want to at least get ideas of,what to look for when you're at the, thrift store that that's that that's,where that's at so yeah so that's all i,have to say about this subject we're,gonna be going out and thrifting, together for the next video looking for, some run fair staples some fantasy core, inspired outfits and pieces because i,don't just go to run fairs i also do a,lot of photography and i've been kind of,leaning into the fantasy photography, lately especially since one of my,friends is really into it as well so i'm,always on the hunt for something really, cool so make sure you guys are, subscribed again make sure you like this, video to help, boost it to help me succeed because lord, knows i need it i really appreciate you, guys i hope you enjoyed this video i,hope it helped and i will see you in the, next one bye

Making a Renaissance Corset and Chemise to wear to the RenFaire | 18th Century Stays for RenFest
Making a Renaissance Corset and Chemise to wear to the RenFaire | 18th Century Stays for RenFest
hello and welcome to a new series this, month i'm going to be making my,renaissance festival costume by the time,i post this series i will have already, gone to the renaissance festival and it,will be over because most of them end, around halloween but i really wanted to,do a halloween specific costume and a,renaissance festival specific costume so,that's kind of what we're doing for this, video i'm going to start with the, chemise and the stays i'm going to be,using the same pattern for the chamies, that i used for my witch shimmies and,for this days i will be using a,different pattern my general idea for, this costume is to do a fairy costume, because i've been really into like, wanting to make my own fairy wings and i,just generally want to make some fun, autumn themed clothes this one will be a,little bit more fantastical than the, witch the witch i was going for a lot of,like really natural stuff whereas this, one because it's kind of more fantasy, based and it's a renaissance festival i,want to be kind of glittery and exciting, and very fall themed so i've got some, fabrics in mind that i've pulled from my,stash and hopefully those will all work, out i think i've come up with a really, cute combination and i didn't have to,buy any fabric for this so that's great, except for the chemise just like for the, witch i also had to buy fabric for the, chemise because i don't have really, large amounts of chiffon so i did buy, some fabric from silk baron for the, chemise um it's,really pretty but it's very lightweight,so hopefully it's not too much of a pain,to cut and so we will see but yeah it's,gonna be pretty basic this is gonna be a,little bit of a shorter series because, there are fewer weeks in november but,i'm super excited to get started and i'm,really excited to make a fairy costume i,haven't been to the renaissance festival, since i was in high school and i'm just,so excited to go i used to go like every, weekend in high school i was also not of,drinking age when i used to go a lot so,i'm really excited to like try the meat, and like whatever local wines they have,i think that'll be a lot of fun,and just generally i have a little bit, more of a disposable income so i'm,excited to go shopping at the, renaissance festival and live my best, high school dream life, alright so that's the general plan i'm,going to making the chemise and the, stays this week and then we'll be making, skirts and some accessories the next, couple videos so let's go look at the, sketch and then the pattern so here are,my fairy sketches like the witch i did, three separate sketches and i kind of,had different ideas for all of them this, was based off of a doll i saw on,pinterest with more of the high face, kind of on pure waist and i think that's,a little bit more italian renaissance as,well this was just kind of like, renaissance fairy i don't know both of,these are just kind of,generic renaissance fairy but i am,mostly drawn to this one mostly because,i like the stays on this very similar to,the witch stays but without tabs so you, know don't come for me the chemise is,gonna be the same um and then instead of,the chimneys kind of like making the, draping parts like i did with the witch, this is gonna be an over layer of lace,i've got all my swatches right here so,this is gonna be the lace over layer and, then i've got this poly shantung as my,base heart and then this is going to be,for the state, these were just some other extra ones i,think that i'm going to be going with, this one specifically maybe with, slightly smaller wings because i don't,want to run into people at the, renaissance festival maybe someday i,will get around to making these other, two designs as well, but i just wanted to show you guys that, this is the sketch i did a sketch and, yeah that's pretty much it i didn't do a,rendering because i am really limited by,how much fabric i have because i chose, fabrics very purposefully from my stash, and i'm limited by how much of each of,those fabrics i have in making my design, let's go take a look at patterns now,for my fairy costume i'm going to be,using butter,b4254 and i'm gonna be using the top, left pattern because i want it to have, this style without the lacing i already, know that i'm gonna be taking the tabs, off just because i don't want them, stylistically and this is for the, renaissance festival however we're,skewing pretty late the renaissance i,think goes until like,16th century or 17th century and this is,definitely 18th century and closer to,the 1780s according to,courses from crinoline this is the book, that i used to check to see if this, pattern is historical or not i am,completely ignoring the diagonal of,these two but these two seem to be,pretty in line with what could be found, historically in the late 1700s so if you, compare these two corsets this one looks, very similar to this one actually um,they both have the banding across the, bust area there the diagonal bones, across the side panels and straight, bones just going up and down along the, center front so this is actually very, very similar so that's kind of cool that, this is actually a fairly historical, commercially available pattern the other, one on the bottom right also seems, pretty accurate there are stays from the,1790s that have front lacing so that's,kind of cool yeah so i'm pretty happy, with using this pattern even if i'm not, quite in the right time period for the, renaissance festival it's kind of the, trendy look for renaissance festivals, right now so i'm happy to use this,um,so,all right i have got the mock-up all, done so it's ready for a fitting you, might recognize what i am wearing from, when i did my fitting for the witch case, because i,have decided to do both of the mock-ups,at once i thought it would just be a,little bit more efficient so i am making, this back up quite far ahead of time i,thought it would be more efficient to,make both mock-ups at the same time so,that's why i'm doing both fittings on,the same day and why i'm wearing the, same outfit i made a few more, alterations to these stays than i did on,my which days because i took off all the, tabs because i i wanted a tablet stays, hopefully that still looks okay i,also did the same thing as i did, previously where i had cut off my lacing, panel on a different mock-up and i just, stuck that straight onto here uh however, because this one laces in the back i'm,going to need mika's help with that so,i'm going to go grab it really quick all, righty, your moms will be so happy when you make,a guest appearance,hi mom, that closed all the way on the top oh,it's too big for me,yeah it's closed all the way on all of,it except the very bottom right okay, this is a lot too big, maybe this whole thing needs to just, come up,oh that looks a little bit i don't like, this this, this is ugly okay so this whole stays is,just like far too big this is the butter, pattern and for one i think that it,needs i don't know where the seam is so,this seam probably needs to come in i,wish i had a seam here but i think maybe,if it's just tighter generally it'll,help, smooth this part out i think also taking,in maybe the center back let me look at,this,if you recall the which stays fitting,i had a problem where these were too far,to the center but this time it's too far,to the side so i think maybe if i just, take in from the center back here, that'll help move everything more this, way i also don't like how high the, center back neck is so i think i'll,lower that neckline quite a bit and then, just taking it in all the way around, hopefully that'll be good enough mostly, this is fine it just really needs to be,taken in quite a bit i even like cut it,a size smaller than i thought i would, need because usually these patterns are,too big but oh well and then these are, definitely too long which i figured, would happen at least on one of these, just because i have pretty short, shoulders like from here to here is like, shorter on me than most people um but, this is definitely way too small so i,think if i take them both to about where, the safety pin heads sit like that that, would look better and then there's a,little space for the ribbon other than, that like the shape is fine i think this, needs to be taken up because this is,just way too long you can't even see it,in the frame i know that's too long so i,think i would prefer for this to be like, that and maybe for, this to be lengthened a little bit in,the waist but it's actually not too bad, where that is okay can you help me now,for the lining on these days i decided,i'm just gonna repurpose my mock-up,fabric it's,in pretty good condition still nothing, seems to have warped out of place and,the pieces only got smaller none of them, got bigger bigger so they should all fit, here the only one that might be an issue,is the center front pieces i do want, this on the fold anyway so i'm going to,recut this one and then these moved, anyways so i would have probably had to,re-cut that but the side pieces and the, back pieces are all pretty good i think,so i'm hoping that i can just reuse it,bye,he's got a cute girl, hello,oh yuppy girl, look at those cute toes,so cute,so,so,so,so,so,in my wish days video i talked about, binding the edges in ribbon rather than, bias tape because it helps keep, everything from stretching out and i am,now binding it in bias tape however this,is just a decorative,of course it stays, and not really a functional one so i'm,not really too worried it's not going to,take too much strain it is better to use, something that's not stretched to bind, this but i wanted something shiny to,bind it with and i wasn't sure that i,could find a nice cotton satin ribbon or,if i could find a silk satin ribbon that, would probably be more expensive and i,already had a bunch of this cool fabric, laying around so this is what i've,decided to do it should be fine, hello,so,so,tips for cutting chiffon because it's so,sheer you don't want to mark the, stitching lines like you normally do on,fabric um i guess with commercial, patterns they usually just have you mark, the cutting lines and not the stitching, lines however it's kind of just better, practice to mark the stitching lines, because it's more precise but with, chiffon because it's so sheer those, lines will still stick around after, you've sewn them all up which is not, cute so we try to avoid that so instead, you mark the cutting lines and then make, sure you have a really precise seam, allowance because this is gonna be a,really large garment it's a chemise so,the precision is a little bit less, important but still pretty important so,it's just something to keep in mind the, second tip when cutting chiffon because,it's so slippery especially silk chiffon,i'm using serrated scissors so i don't,know if you can tell but there's a,little serrated edge on the blade of,these scissors and that helps grip the, chiffon so it doesn't slip away and like, get pushed off of the scissors while i'm,cutting these are ginger serrated, scissors and they're super helpful when, cutting really slippery fabrics,so,so,i'm doing french seams on everything so,i'm going to be sewing everything right, sides together first add a quarter inch, seam allowance then i'll trim it down, and stitch it again,uh with wrong sides together at a 3 8,inch seam allowance,so,so,okay generally uh oh no you do want them, okay thank you guys for watching um,some thoughts on these patterns this, chamise pattern was fine i used this for,the witch so i already knew that it was, gonna go okay this fabric was,so much worse to cut and to sew than the, witch fabric because it's a much thinner, silk it looks really pretty but it,wrinkles really poorly i probably should, have ironed this before i wore it in the, reveal but that's okay it,it looks kind of like a choice even, though it's not really a choice i was, just i washed it and i did not iron it,so for the stays i think they turned out, really cute, however the pattern was not great um i,ended up having to size it down quite a,bit it was way too big at the, like recommended size so i did make it,smaller in that regard i would suggest, the red threaded pattern over the, butterwork pattern because i didn't have,to do much for the red threaded pattern,in my which stays as i did for this the, other thing that i had an issue with, there's a bunch of boning that goes, horizontally across the bust i think, that's really useful if you are quite, busty um i don't really need all that, much support but it was still fine um,the thing that was the problem though is,that where the horizontal and the, vertical bones meet because you're,supposed to leave a little bit of a gap,in boning channels for, bones to like have some wiggle room, right so they're not really taut and, they don't poke through that's kind of,caused an issue in that where like the,two directions of bonings met it kind of,crunched in on itself so it would, pull down a lot so i was like very in,danger of exposure for a lot of it um,thankfully my hair is so long that it,just kind of covers this whole thing so,even if there was any uh slippage it,didn't cause a problem and i was able to,just fix it without anybody noticing as,far as i know but that is something to,keep in mind that it does kind of like, crunch in where those two meet because,if the vertical boning slips down, there's a little bit of space where it's,just fabric at the top of that and then, kind of folds in on itself which is not, great maybe, making those bones longer so it does, fill the entire thing or like tacking a,little bit or doing i don't know some, kind of flossing at the bottom so they,do really stay in place nicely would, help out i don't know but with the way i,did it it is a little bit of a problem,so i might go back and do a couple tacks,at the bottom of each bone to make sure, that they do stay up and pressed up,against the horizontal boning rather, than sliding down and causing the, crunching other than that i think that,it went really well i did take off all,the tabs on these stays and i don't know,if that would affect the fit i think, taking the tabs off make the stays, easier to fit rather than keeping them,on i don't know that for sure but that's,kind of my guess i've had to lace it in,the back by myself but it is doable i,just kind of lace it most of the way in,the front shift it around and then, struggle with the last couple grommets,on the back but it's really easy to wear,it's pretty comfortable and like i,basically just don't notice it while i'm,wearing so that's great um i'm able to,eat in it that's always good,so 10 out of 10 recommend making your, own pair of stains all right if you like, this video please give it a thumbs up if,you want to see the rest of this series, next week i'm going to be making some, pretty arm bands and some skirts to go,with my shimmies and stays, and then we'll be going to the, renaissance festival eventually in this, costume and if you have any suggestions, for other types of renaissance festival, outfits you want to see or like other, patterns first days you want me to try,out i'd be happy to do that i'm really, having fun making a lot of different, stays so,leave a comment if you have, any advice or suggestions if you want to,see the rest of this costume and you, want to see the renaissance festival, then please subscribe i hope to see you,in the next video okay bye,you

DIY Fantasy Medieval Costume for Renaissance Festivals!
oh bean just stretched her little pizza, little pizza little toesies,hi friends so today i'm going to show, you guys how i made my run fair costume, for this year so i wanted something, really light, and airy and simple and comfortable that,i can wear and this is perfect the, shift is 100 linen so it's very, comfortable and then the skirt is 100,cotton so it's very breathable and then, the, stays that i made are made out of silk, dupioni,so is that how you say it i don't know, anyway everything was very comfortable, the wig is so hot though but i just, wanted something that i could just, quickly throw on and then go to renfrere, and it was really nice and we had a,really good time so i'm very happy so,i'm just gonna go over everything that i,made we'll link other tutorials and, patterns in the description the ears i,also have a tutorial for and i will link, that the flower crown i actually bought,at the fair and it's really cute i was, like i need a crown that matches my,outfit and i found one so,yeah and the potion bottle came with the, belt that i got and it's just cellophane, and water and it's magical and i'm so,awkward around kids but this kid was, like oh my god that's so pretty and i,was like thanks,it's unicorn magic that's that's my,whole outfit for this year i want to,keep adding on to this more like magical, stuff because i really like the colors, the colors are 100 my favorite colors, ever like the gray and the white and the, lavender is just,it's perfect it's everything i wanted so,it's hot it's really hot in here so um,let's go ahead and jump into this, tutorial okay so i am using this, butterick pattern that my mom gave to me,for this shift and the only thing that i,am doing differently is i am not adding,a ruffle around the top and i'm making,it pretty long it's about down on my,knees-ish first i made a mock-up and i,put one of my belts around it to make, sure it'll look cute and stuff and it,does,so i will go ahead and put it on my 100,linen fabric, fabric,so soft, soft fabric so i know there are proper, ways to cut linen and also a really easy, way to make shifts from like rectangles, and but this is my first one and i,was like you know what i'm going to make,it from this pattern from the shirt that,i like and i'm a cosplayer okay i'm not, going for historical accuracy or,anything i'm i make costumes, badly,so here i'm just pinning the sleeve, edges together and i do roll the hem so,that they're nice and finished on the, inside and then i sew the seams by,machine because again i'm a cosplayer, and i want to get this done fast, gotta go fast so here i'm just finishing, the bottom of the sleeves, and i also pin down the seam on the, inside of the sleeve so that it's not, like flopping around or sticking out or,anything and then i just sew this down,by hand, and then i go back to being lazy and i,machine stitch the hem on the sleeve, next i pin the two sides together and i,machine stitch them,i love installing sleeves i know i'm,probably insane but i love installing, sleeves so here i am just installing, these sleeves, that seam matches up perfectly, good times love it,i sew a stitch along the bottom of the, sleeves and this will be where i gather, the fabric to make the sleeves tight to,my wrist then i pull on the thread to,gather the fabric and then bean has, decided to make my pattern her new home,is that comfy she's looking very comfy, then i hand stitch the gathers into, place,i kind of wish i made the sleeves longer, because my arms are very long but i mean, this is fine it worked, for the top of the shift i made a,channel for the cotton cording so that i,can tie it tight and i did this just by,folding the fabric over and it just, created a little channel,i machine stitched the channel,i used some wire to help guide the, cotton cornet corning not corn, through the channel, and then i tried it on,tied it and it is perfect it's so so,comfortable,i put my mock-up stays over it and i,really like how it all fits together so,let's move on to the skirt that you see, here i decided to make a half circle, skirt so there are two seams on the each, side of the cert this, since it is,since it is a long skirt it was hard to,do a full circle skirt because my fabric, just wasn't wide enough so i was like,i'll just do a half circle square and,it's totally fine so i marked out my,waist size onto a corner i'll link how,to make circle skirts in my description,it's really easy i i didn't i didn't,film any explanations on how to do,a circle skirt so i'll just i'll link it,and just to make it easier and i then, measured the length of it,sebastian has found himself a very, comfortable spout, next i cut out the skirt,i place this half onto the other side of,my fabric and then i cut out the other, side of the skirt pinned them together,at the sides and then i sewed the edges, with my machine because again fast,i gathered the top of the skirt and, installed an elastic band,so it just slips on and off it's very, easy i'm also evil and i didn't finish, the top of the skirt so um i just left,it like this and my stays covered,um if i was entering this into like a,competition or something or if i really, cared that much i would have finished, the top of the skirt but i just left it,like this because,i don't know i'm so lazy sometimes, anyway that's the skirt after trying it,on i hem the bottom of it and that's it,i just, made it look nice,i could twirl on this for hours it is so,fun like that's all i did, when getting like video of this i just, twirled in it,for the stays i made the lining first,i'll link the site where i got the stays, pattern they're actually 18th century, stays that i modified a little bit to,look more like a fantasy cottage quarry,so,cottage corey,so i pinned down the pattern pieces to,my lining fabric i decided to sit, outside and do this because it was, really nice out and it was so pretty and,i was like oh my god what a beautiful, morning, get some dank footage of you playing, mario though, people learn some skills, nothing like the sound of warrior, warrior, yelling in the morning, after getting devoured by some, mosquitoes i went inside and i pinned, all the pieces together, once i sewed them all together i sewed, the boning channels which are actually, just pieces of ribbon again cosplayer,i'm not here to do anything historically, accurate to get the correct locations of,the boning channels i poke some holes, into my pattern where the boning, markings are and then i transferred them, onto the fabric with some sharpie and, that was just a guide on where to put,the channels and it turned out just fine,so i'm happy with it the boning channels, literally took 8 000 years sewing them, took so long, the fabric that i'm using is a silk, dupioni again am i saying that right i,have no idea which has horizontal lines,in it so because it has these horizontal, lines i want everyone to just yell, please stop oh god please stop what i'm,doing right now i can can you tell what,i'm doing wrong can you tell i cut it,all out and i didn't realize until the,end what i did and i up,the lines, the lines do not match up,am i like this so i did by enough i,always over by fabric just in case, something goes wrong and um this is one,of those instances where something went, wrong,so i do it all over again and i,angled all of the pattern pieces in a,way to where they are all going the, right way and they're all matching up,and of course i machine stitched them, all together, after sewing them all i ironed the seams, open, and then i placed my lining on top with, the right sides together so that i can, eventually you know sew it together and, then flip it right side out, after that i cut out the boning i place, them in the channels and then i stitch, the sides of the boning which is so,satisfying to see it all come together, like this was really fun but again i'm a,cosplayer i'm not historically accurate, don't come for me,so here are the stays after sewing down, the boning, and here i am finishing the strips, that'll go along the bottom of the top,of the stays and it's basically just, making bias tape you fold in the two, edges and then you fold it one more time, and it makes a really nice crisp, finished edge,i pinned that onto the bottom of the, stays and up and around, here are the corners of the shoulder, straps i just folded them inwards so,where they're nice and, diagonal i don't know i don't know how i,did this i don't know what i'm doing and, then i machine stitched them down, and there was a burb a bird on my roof, what are they doing what are you doing, burb, for the eyelets i measured them an inch, apart punched the holes and installed, silver eyelets,i really love the way the silver looks, against the lilac it's just 10 out of,10.,for the lacing i used double sided satin, ribbon i melted the edges to keep them, from fraying i was testing different, styles of lacing i really like the x's,here but i ended up going with a,crisscross for the final look i left out,two loops in the middle of the back to,tighten them once i get the stays on,and that's really it it was really, simple um my first,my first pair of stays from a pattern, and i'm really really liking it they're,also, holding up quite a bit i've put these, days on so many times and they're doing, wonderful and i'm very happy with it so,thank you at the amazing person for, providing it again i will link the, pattern in the description so and here's,the look with my belt and everything, and thank you guys so much for watching, and hanging out i hope it was, informative or fun or something i have, two other videos coming out in october, mimikyu eventually i will edit that and,get that done and then pyramid head oh,my goodness,oh,look, very very,sexy,triangle-headed by the way um i am,bringing pyramid head to anime senpai in,october so if you are there,i will be there and i cannot see in that, head so those two videos will be coming, out soon too so if you like cool crafty, stuff then please subscribe and i will, see you guys next time, bye,i think my wig that whole time was up,like this, let's just ignore that it just, ignored it keeps hanging in my face

Making a Renaissance dress!
Making a Renaissance dress!
hi i'm eleanor welcome back to my,channel today i have decided,to make a renaissance elizabeth york,um fantasy a red dress with fabric i had, left for making something else,so the first thing i did was drape a,pattern on my mannequin,i don't really know very much about, draping patterns but this is just kind,of how i do it,so if you do a different way don't,attack me just, you know that's how i do it anyways, then i went ahead and draped the back, also what the hell is this camera angle,it's so,awful i'm so sorry,i'm not 100 sure what i was doing here, but i'm like 90,sure i was making a mock-up sort of i,don't know why i wrote on them, but there you go,so the next thing i did was make a,mock-up so here you can see me sewing, all the pieces together,so the next thing i did was cut out the, lining um,the inter lining interfacing whatever, you want to call it,and the main fabric out of the pattern,i'd made,i don't know what that pattern fabric, was it was kind of useless but, there you go also don't even ask why,i've got three pairs of scissors,it makes no sense um they just live, there,i have many many scissors to the point, where it's probably a problem, then i pinned all of the pieces together,so i could sew them, then i just sewed down all of the bodice, pieces on my machines here you can see,me sewing the lining and the, outer layer and then pinning them, together,so the next thing i did was um pin them, all together and then, sew them on the machine as you can see,me doing here, and then i removed all the pins and, flipped it inside out,and i sewed the sides that were left, open up and i sewed the straps together,so that i could finish the bodice, basically, then i started on the sleeves and i,basically just made a really large, sleeve so that i could gather it i then, sewed along all the lace and then, pin loads of ribbons down so that i,could have channels to put the elastic, through to make the sleeve bunch up,i then repeated this on the other sleeve, and you can see me doing the same, process here, also i'm so sorry for the audio quality,in these clips, then i went through and just inserted, all of the elastic which took, forever and just sewed down the sides to,make them into sleeves and then i,again repeated that process on the other, sleeve, then i pinned the sleeves to the bodice,to try and finish that off and sew them, down i then ended up sewing some gold, trim onto the bodice to make it look, pretty, then i decided to do little stitches all, across the bottom so that it would lay, flat, and not be all inside out and, tangled it it makes sense slightly, relevant but my hair looks,so bad in these clips i'm so sorry, please ignore how messy the room i'm in,here is it's,very chaotic, also this took forever and i kind of,regret it now because, you couldn't even notice on the final, dress, then i sewed two long strips down the, back to stop the eyelets from pulling as,much, then i marked where the eyelets are, going to be so i've got a different, microphone thing now so,maybe this voiceover should work better,i can't decide, there was audio on this clip but i cut,it out because it sounded horrible,so basically here's me showing you that,i put eyelets in and that i have, pretty much finished the bodice uh it,doesn't really fit the mannequin even, though it's like an adjustable mannequin,i cannot explain that to me that makes,no sense but, here is the completed bodice, okay so the next thing i did was sew a,hem along the bottom of all the rest of,the fabric and, gather the top by hand,i then ended up pinning that to the, bodice, and sewing those together on the machine, which was not easy but i did it then i,um pin that, and basically just hand stitched a bunch,of stuff down and sewed the back,up and zigzag stitched along all the raw, edges,oh yeah this is a bit where i'm hand, stitching i don't know what i said i was, doing earlier but, here is me hand stitching this bodice, then i had to trim along the waistline, because,i didn't like the way the waistline, looked, then this is basically just me showing, you how the dress looked on,um when i finished it i was quite happy, with it the gathering was not perfect, and i wish i would have actually paid, more attention to it,and i think i'm talking about this here, but yeah, that's what happened um this is the, dress how it looks ignore the fat limit,in the graveyard i was walking through, there to try and find a place to get, pictures,um and my mom happens to take this very, nice video showing off the dress, and these are the final pictures of how,the dress looked i'm really pleased with,it and i hope you like it,thank you so much for watching my video,i really hope you enjoyed it,please subscribe and i know you can't,comment on my videos, but you can comment on my instagram post, anything you want to see next,um and feel free to follow my instagram, and tiktok i will have them linked,in the description um,for now that's it

Building Your Costume for the Renaissance Faire with Things You Already Have
Building Your Costume for the Renaissance Faire with Things You Already Have
hello renaissance fair season is,starting across the country though in my,part of the country it's not for a few, more months, and i'm your resident run fair, enthusiast and former performer, here to help you develop some ideas for, your renaissance fair costume, now obviously this is based on items, that i've had from years working at the, renaissance fair or attending them and, also some handmade items some of which, you can see on my channel,so it's more focused on sort of feminine, garb but,i will be posting a little bit about my,husband's costume this year and i did, post out making him a shirt previously,i'm also hoping to make myself something,a little more medieval for this year's,festivities,in the northeast,so if you are interested in seeing that, please subscribe, what should i wear is kind of the first, question i get from a lot of friends, when it's go they're going to their, first fair and it can be expensive,so using items you already have like a,peasant dress which was very trendy, within the last year or two,is a great way to start but it's pretty, basic so you might want to dress it up a,little bit and again using items you can,buy at the fair find online or make, yourself is a good option, this is a pair of 18th century stays i,made for myself but in the historically, jumbled world of the renaissance fair, they work quite nicely and give that, nice historical silhouette,i always feel that accessories are, really what makes a costume so here i,have this leather loop that can be used,as a skirt keep but i'm putting it on,backwards so that i can hang my drinking, vessel from it which is something that's,pretty popular affairs you can bring, your own mug or tankard although check, your individual fares rules,i also have this really pretty tooled, leather belt that just adds an extra, layer of texture and visual interest to,my outfit, layering around the skirt is also a fun,way to make your outfit more unique so,this is honestly just a sort of stole, shawl from unit glow that i am fastening, with a peningular brooch, and then this is just a very lightweight, linen cloak that helps keep the sun off,my shoulders on those very sunny fair, days but isn't too hot,so we've taken a very basic, peasant dress and we've made into a,really fun costume with colors and, textures and all sorts of visual, interest that makes it unique to me,another perennial favorite at the fair,is of course a pirate costume and the, simplest way to start with that is a,white shirt maybe a peasant plus this is,one i made that is based off a 16th,century look and some trousers,i'm gonna cuff up my sleeves i did all, this embroidery by hand and you can find, that video on my channel as well, this year i anticipate there's going to,be a lot of fancy dapper gentlemen, pirate costumes thanks to the show our, flag means death so you could go in that, direction, but our flag means death is set in the,18th century there were a lot of cool,16th century pirates though like grace,o'malley for example,so you could do something a little bit, more in the traditional pirate costume i,like adding a leather bodice because, leather is you know a nice protective, layer for those, battles at sea,and it adds a really cool layer of color,to this as well a nice belt,is a practical option to add and this, one is looped in the way a lot of,traditional medieval belts were,it gives you like a nice long tail,on my belt you can see i have a simple, leather hanger which i'm going to use,for my fencing foil you can use any sort,of prop sword,i have a prop dagger as well fencing, foils are just left over from my,misspent youth but as you can see, this gives you kind of a cool pirate, look just make sure your weapons are, pieced tight at the gate the next most, common look i see is sort of this, starter renaissance fair costume, that consists of an open front overdress, that laces up and some sort of chemise a,lot of people start with this the, simplest way to judge it up is to add a,skirt to cover that open front, and maybe some sort of scarf to cover, your neck a lot of paintings and, etchings from this era show that women, would do this when working out in the,sun because they didn't have spf and, this will help protect you at the fair, too in case you forget to reapply it,also adds color and texture not a bad, choice, but you could also go a little bit more, fantasy mystery woman of the woods with, this look, and to do so i added a medieval hood a,medieval hood is one of the simplest, things you can sew i have a video about, how i created mine but there are also a,few good patterns out there i'll link, below i added buttons to the front of,mine which you don't have to do but that, just gives me the option to wear either, fully closed or partly open,i also added my loop belt to this outfit, and just slung a little bottle,it could be a drinking bottle or potion, bottle whatever direction you're taking, the character in to the belt it's also a,good way to sneak in some extra fluids,to keep you from getting dehydrated,so this kind of,creates a new look that's very unique, renaissance fares are also very common, for fantasy looks cosplays, even just original characters so i've,been creating a mushroom hat to do a,sort of hobbity mushroom elf look, potentially at my fair this year and i,will have a video on creating a mushroom, hat in about two weeks this one's not, finished yet but i want you to see,and these are just some simple stays, that i made out of corduroy which give,it a nice texture, ultimately, corsets and stays are fun but you don't,need them a vest will do just fine,so i hope this video has given you some, ideas on how you can build up your own, costume and feel a little less, intimidated at the fair this year most, importantly go and have fun it's kind of,a free-for-all in how you dress,a special thank you to my patrons and if,you'd like to join their ranks and help,me afford to go to some festivals this, year to vlog them you can find the link, below, bye
