5 EASY Halloween Cake Decorating Ideas

5 EASY Halloween Cake Decorating Ideas

Hi! In this tutorial i'm going to show you five  very easy ideas to decorate Halloween cakes!,This first technique is messy but fun! Melt  marshmallows for 30 seconds in the microwave  ,and then pinch the warm, gloopy marshmallows  and stretch them to make thin strands,  ,which you can then wrap around your cake.  Your cake needs to be cold for this so that  ,the strands of marshmallow don't cut into the  frosting. If you dip your fingers in water first,  ,the marshmallows won't stick to your hands as much  but it's quite fun to get messy for this! Wrap the  ,marshmallows randomly around the cake, playing  around with the height of each hand to change the  ,angle that the marshmallows go onto your cake so  they all overlap and tangle up like a spiderweb.  ,You can go over the top of the cake the same  way, stretching the marshmallows to make strings  ,or push all of your fingers together  and then slowly spread them out to  ,stretch the marshmallow out and then  drape that over the top of the cake.  ,This covers more of the cake so it's quicker and  by doing it this way, with the marshmallows spread  ,out into more of a sheet instead of strings, the  marshmallows won't cut into the frosting on the  ,top edge of your cake. You can't go wrong with  this cake design because you're aiming for a mess  ,so you can have a lot of fun in the process!  Now we'll take a very unfestive cake and make  ,it Halloweeny with two different techniques.  The first uses a homemade stencil and a pre-made  ,stencil. To make a creepy full moon stencil,  cut two circles out of parchment paper, one  ,circle slightly bigger than the other. The bigger  circle will be the glowing ring around the moon.  ,Press the bigger circle against the cake and  spread white buttercream over it, carefully  ,spreading from the outside of the circle towards  the middle so you don't wrinkle the stencil or  ,push buttercream underneath the outer edge of the  circle. The frosting on your cake needs to have  ,set for this so this cake has been in the fridge  for a few hours for the frosting to firm up.  ,Smooth the white buttercream with your offset  spatula or a frosting smoother and don't worry if  ,it's so thin that you can see through it because  the purpose of this circle is just to create the  ,light that shines out around the moon. We're going  to make a bolder moon in the middle. Use an offset  ,spatula or a paint brush to smudge the outside  of the circle so that it blends gradually into  ,the rest of the frosting on the cake and next we  need to create a bright moon within this glow.  ,You can chill the cake again to set this white  buttercream or go straight onto the next stencil,  ,pressing it against the cake and spreading  over the circle with white buttercream to  ,create the moon. You'll probably smudge some  of the previous white circle with your stencil  ,but that's fine because we're going  for a glowing blurry effect anyway.  ,Smooth the buttercream, peel your  stencil off and there's the moon!  ,Now I'm going to use a bat stencil and you can  use the whole stencil or block off parts of the  ,stencil using parchment paper so that only a  smaller section transfers onto the cake like  ,this or I'm about to use a different technique. I  want just one bat and instead of risking smudging  ,my moon or messing up the stencil and staining  my white moon with black frosting, I'm taping  ,some parchment paper onto a cutting board  and then stenciling onto the parchment paper,  ,doing three bats so that I have extras if my first  one doesn't work. I have a tutorial on 16 Ways To  ,Use Stencils On Cakes and if you're interested  in that, the link is in the video description.  ,Peel the stencil off, put the paper on the board  in the freezer for 15 minutes and while that's  ,chilling, if the frosting on the cake has set you  can spread a tiny bit of buttercream onto the moon  ,to make it sticky. Then take your parchment  out of the freezer and use a sharp knife to  ,lift the buttercream off the parchment and press  the bat onto the cake wherever you want it to go.  ,A simpler way to make this a Halloween cake is  to add some candy. I'm matching the colour scheme  ,with these purple and black sprinkles, which  i'm going to turn into lollipops to add to the  ,top of the cake. I'm using a mold but you can  pour this sugar mixture straight onto parchment  ,paper for round but not perfectly circular pops  and I have a full tutorial on sugar lollipops  ,on www.britishgirlbakes.com with the recipe  and the link is in the video description.  ,You could use Halloween candy within  the lollipops instead of sprinkles,  ,like orange and black M&Ms or candy corn. When  the lollipops are cool after about 30 minutes,  ,lift them up and push them into your cake!,To make these elegant gold pumpkins,  pipe buttercream with a small star tip  ,like a #199 to make a stem. Use a  1M star tip to pipe the pumpkin,  ,piping 4 curved lines. This is parchment paper or  you can use wax paper and the reason for piping  ,onto this instead of straight onto the cake  is so that you can paint the pumpkins gold.  ,Put the pumpkins on the paper into the freezer  for at least an hour to set and meanwhile,  ,make some gold paint using gold luster dust  and a few drops of clear alcohol like vodka  ,or you can use almond extract or any other clear  coloured, alcohol-based flavour extract will work.  ,Take your pumpkins out of the freezer  and brush them with the gold paint,  ,getting into all of the cracks  and crevices with your paintbrush.,Now pipe or spread a bit of buttercream onto  the frosting on your cake to act as glue.  ,Lift a pumpkin up with an offset spatula  and press it into the buttercream.  ,If you're enjoying this tutorial  please click the thumbs up button  ,and subscribe to my channel for a new  cake decorating tutorial every week!  ,If you wipe off any gold paint as you push the  pumpkins against the cake, you can touch them  ,up by painting on a bit more gold paint and you  can also use your paintbrush to push the pumpkins  ,around gently to wrap them more closely around  the sides of the cake. I have a tutorial on how to  ,decorate this cake from start to finish with the  buttercream stripes and more details on the gold  ,pumpkins and the link is in the video description.  Finally, decorate the inside of your cake! Pour  ,Halloween coloured sprinkles into your cake batter  before you bake it and the sprinkles will melt  ,and dissolve, leaving splotches of colour in the  cake. You can do this for cakes and cupcakes and  ,add cookie dough filling made with Halloween candy  for an even more festive touch. For cupcakes, cut  ,a hole out in the middle with a sharp knife and  then roll a spoonful of cookie dough into a bowl.  ,The recipe is on www.britishgirlbakes.com and I  have a full tutorial on how to make it and use  ,it as a filling and frosting and the links are in  the video description. Push the cookie dough ball  ,into the hole and pipe frosting over the top for a  delicious surprise when you bite into the cupcake!,You can stack this cookie dough between layers  of cake too, using a bit of buttercream above  ,and below the cookie dough to make it stick to  the cake. The layers of cake and cookie dough  ,filling look irresistible and this cake flavour  is definitely the most popular I've made for  ,people - everyone loves cookie dough! I hope  i've given you some ideas for decorating your  ,Halloween cakes and I'd love to see what  you make! Please tag @britishgirlbakes in  ,your photos on instagram so i can see your  creations. 4 Easy Halloween Cupcake Ideas for Kids & Beginners

4 Easy Halloween Cupcake Ideas for Kids & Beginners

I think I made a pun web design I'm,sorry everyone, not like a good pun even but like just, okay, welcome to Oakleaf cakes i'm cristal and, today we're gonna learn how to do some, really fun and easy Halloween cupcakes, for your party or for your kids you can,do all these at home,so the first ones we're going to make, are dirt and worms it's really good it's,just chocolate cake with chocolate, buttercream and then we're going to,learn how to make some chocolate spider, webs on these red velvet cupcakes the, next one is zombie brains it's just, strawberry buttercream don't worry on,these lemon cupcakes and then the last, ones we'll do are some fun little, fondant jack-o'-lanterns on the carrot, cupcakes so the first thing we're going,to do is learn how to fill a piping bag,so I have a reusable piping bag here and,a round tip these tips come in sets, usually and they're I use like the, biggest one here this one's an 808 but, whatever the one of the bigger ones is,you can use so what you want to do first,is unfold the bag and then drop the tip,in and you want to make sure the hole, doesn't cover the the tip and you're,gonna put your hand in like you're,holding an ice-cream cone,I know you can't really see it but fold,it about halfway down and we got our, chocolate buttercream here we're gonna, use the time meringue buttercream we,have a tutorial of how to make our, buttercream so you can just follow the, link below the video we're gonna, actually fill the piping bag which seems, really easy and it is but most people do,it kind of the wrong way at first and, then there's all these air bubbles in,your bag and I'll just explode, everywhere umm so we don't really want, that to happen what we're gonna do is,get our spatula and you just want to,scoop the buttercream and using your, fingers that are along the edge to just, guide it in and holding the bag so,instead of just shoving it in like this,I'm really just packing it in and I,describe it like brown sugar so that way,all the air just gets smushed down and, there's less less chance of having air, pockets and you don't need to overfill, your bags it makes it pretty hard to use,so I just fill it until this part that, was folded down becomes full so just, like that and so the next part I want to,do is make sure that this bag is sealed, shut so if I were to squeeze the bag and,I wasn't sealing this part shut it's,gonna go all up that way and you're,gonna have a mess so what you want to do,is twist the bag a couple times maybe, hold it over the the bowl of buttercream, and give it a squeeze and you're all set,to go I'm gonna teach you a little bit, about piping with this cupcake flavor, the dirt and worms if you mess up your, piping a little bit it's okay cuz we're,gonna smush the cupcakes and um this,Oreo and graham cracker dirt so it's,it's a really forgiving cupcake and, buttercream design but I'm gonna give, you a little demo on piping anyway so I,have my chocolate cupcakes and I'm gonna, take my bag of buttercream and I'm gonna,go directly over the cupcakes straight,up and down with my bag and just hover a,bit I don't want to smash into the, cupcake and I don't want to go too far, away just want to find a perfect, distance and then make a nice little, swirl like that now if your again if,this comes up looking a little weird,we're gonna be able to fix it really, soon so again maybe I'll add a little, less buttercream to this one and not do,that little top swirl so it's a nice, fluffy swirl of chocolate so what I'm,gonna do now is get my my Oreo dirt and,it seems a little scary but it's really, fun I'm just gonna smush,a cupcake in and now it's covered in,dirt which is really fun so I'm just, gonna smash it in like this and now it's,nice and flat so it removes any mistakes, that you've made which is pretty handy, now we're gonna add the worms so we just, have these gummy worms here what I like,to do is get some clean scissors and, just cut them right in half seems a,little little sad but it'll be fun in,the end stick them in the cupcake like,so it's it seems like you want to add a,lot to them but it's going to weigh down, the buttercream too much and it might, shift around so I really only put two, halves in and I like to mix up the, colors too that way we get the most bang, for our buck and that's it it's pretty, simple and it looks really fun and kids, really really like these our next, cupcake is the red velvet and we're just, doing vanilla buttercream you could also, use cream cheese which is very popular,or any other white buttercream but for,for right now we're just gonna do,vanilla so I filled up my bag and, squeeze it out I'm going to start right,in the center here and hover over the, cupcake and I want to have a steady, speed and pressure going on if I go too, fast and I don't squeeze out enough it's,going to look all broken up and kinda, fleeted and if I squeeze too slow and go,or if I squeeze too much and go too slow,it's gonna be really crooked looking so,finding the right speed and pressure, will get you a nice even looking pouf, like that so for the next one so you, want to have some melted chocolate handy,we put it in a little disposable piping, bag and I'm just gonna cut the tip of,this off and I don't want to make the, cut, big just enough so this is just melted, dark chocolate and you want to get some, clean toothpicks so we're gonna make, kind of like a bull's-eye with the, chocolate so I'm going to just put a,little dollop right in the center like, that and then two rings you know what I,think I need to cut this a little bit, more I think I was being a little too, conservative I'm just gonna go back over, that this is good this is a good, thickness and it's okay they're a little, wonky cuz we're gonna mess them up,anyway all right so I got my funky, little bullseye going on so with your, toothpick I'm gonna start from the, center and I'm just gonna drag out the, butter or the chocolate and I would just, flip over the toothpick because I don't,want to drag what's already there you,can also get a clean wet rag and just, wipe off your toothpick so this one, requires a little bit of practice your, first couple of ones might not look that, great but just keep on practicing this, next cupcake on our lemon cupcakes we're,gonna do strawberry ZOMBIE BRAINS so in,this bag we have a small round tip and,we have our strawberry buttercream which,is just strawberry jam mixed in with it,with our vanilla Italian meringue, buttercream so it's really really good, and then in another little disposable, bag here we just have the strawberry jam, that's gonna be like the guts of the, brains this sounds so silly so I made, swirls and what I did was just flatten, out the swirl a little bit because I'll,help us make the the dome of the brain,so what we're gonna do first is pipe a,line down the center, and I'll differentiate the two, hemispheres of the brain and then I'm,just gonna pipe a bunch of random, squiggles sometimes your strawberry jam, will get stuck but that's okay and then,I'm going to redraw that line and then, add a second line down the middle here, okay and then I'm gonna make the other, set of squiggles nice line and then I'm,gonna do all those little swig Lee's,we draw, and here are some brains so the next, part we can do is add the guts on top, which is just struck more at some more, strawberry jam and there's no real like, technique to do this just kind of glob,it on I try not to do too too much cuz, there's already strawberry in the, buttercream to do the second one so this,is perfect for any of your zombie, friends that want brains okay so for our, last one we're gonna make some some fun,jack-o'-lantern little fondant accents,to put on top of the cupcake so I just, have some carrot cupcakes here and I got, some cinnamon Italian meringue, buttercream so you just add cinnamon to,taste so I'm gonna use this star tip and,I'm just gonna go right on top here and, make that nice swirl a little bit of,cinnamon that didn't get super mixed in,with that one we're gonna get some, orange fondant our fondant is our, marshmallow fondant and we make it here, you can watch our tutorial of how to,make the fondant as well so what I'm,gonna grab from here it's a rolling pin,our little jack-o'-lantern cookie cutter, some cornstarch some edible markers, which are really fun,you can grab these at a craft store as,well and this little tool with like a,straight edge on it it's going to get me,a little bit of definition in the, pumpkin I have some orange fondant, already made and,it's gonna tap some cornstarch on the, table so whenever you're rolling out, fondant you want to make sure you have, some cornstarch so it doesn't stick to,the table and I have my little cookie, cutter and just going to cut two little, pumpkin shapes what I want to do first,is get this tool with a little edge on,it,and this is the stem right here and, these are the little like curves of the, pumpkin I'm just gonna go in and just, kind of exaggerate those just so it's,not a just a flat cookie cutter it'll,give it a little bit more personality, just like that make them a little, different from each other too, okay and then with this brown marker I'm,gonna lightly you don't want to really, press down with these markers if your, fondant is super soft cuz they'll ruin, the marker and they'll just look like,it's pressed into the fondant rather, than painted on they just want to go,nice and gentle and just giving it a,little bit of brown for the stump or the, vine because they're not really stumps, just like that now with the black marker,I get to do whatever I want for the face,so I'm when I'm making these for the, store I do lots of really silly ones,I'll show you a more basic face first so,we're going to get draw on some triangle, eyes and then you're going to make a,basic kind of smile like that and then, draw the other part of the mouth and I'm,going to do a bump up for like a tooth, and a second one and then you just color,in the rest so now it looks like he has, these two,a little piece there really cute and, then you can just put it right on top of,the cupcake I like to put it on top of,where I end up a swirl so it's all nice, and crisp I'll make another one I'm,gonna make a more naughty or sinister, looking one and I'm making these like, kind of a u-shaped eyes so they're like, angry and then I'm gonna do a squiggly, mouth another squiggle so it looks like,he's cackling or yelling so he's angry, that was necessary and then he just put,it right on top and now we got some fun, cupcakes for your party thanks for, joining us I'm crystal and I really hope, that you have fun making these Halloween, cupcakes at home, all right now what do we do with these

Mini Halloween Cakes

Mini Halloween Cakes

I'm going to show you how to make these fun mini  ,cakes for Halloween but any of these  designs will work on bigger cakes too.,To assemble a mini cake you'll need mini cake  layers. These are four inch cakes. Level and  ,divide your cake layers and then assemble the  cake on a cake board so it's on a flat surface.  ,I'll show you how to transfer the cake  to a cake stand or platter later. You  ,can use whatever fillings you like for these  - I'm using my four minute buttercream tinted  ,orange for this cake because it's going to be  a pumpkin or actually no, a Jack-o-Lantern!  ,It's always a good idea to apply a crumb coat  first which is a thin layer of frosting to trap  ,any crumbs that come off the cake and let that  set for 30 minutes in the fridge or 15 minutes  ,in the freezer before applying your final coat  of frosting. Once it's nice and smooth put the  ,cake in the fridge for an hour or the freezer  for 30 minutes so that this frosting gets really  ,cold and firm and meanwhile, make your own cake  stencil using a piece of parchment paper or wax  ,paper or baking paper. Draw a Jack-o-Lantern  face with a pencil which is the easiest to  ,use on parchment paper because pen doesn't work  very well because of the coating on the paper.  ,Cut the design out and when the frosting on  the cake is firm place the stencil on top and  ,spread black frosting over it. I share all of  my tips for tricky frosting colors like black  ,frosting in a tutorial and the link is at the  top of the screen and in the video description.  ,Cover the whole design and then scrape off the  excess to smooth it. Peel the stencil off straight  ,away and voila! A creepy jack-o-lantern cake! Next  up, a mummy cake! Spread or pipe a dot of frosting  ,onto the middle of the cake board and press the  first cake layer into that which holds the cake  ,in place while you frost it. This is especially  important for mini cakes like these because they  ,weigh so little that with just a bit of pressure  from your offset spatula or cake comb they'll  ,slip inside all over the cake board if you don't  attach them with something. Cover the cake with  ,a crumb coat, let it set or chill it to speed up  the setting process and then spread black frosting  ,over an area on the top, which is going to be  sticking out from between the mummy's bandages.  ,Pipe two big dots of yellow frosting for the eyes  or you could use green or red or whatever colour  ,you like. I used a 1A piping tip for these dots.  Smooth them with an offset spatula and then dip a  ,toothpick into the black frosting and poke it into  each dot to make the black centers of the eyes.,I think it's easiest to pipe  bandages around the sides of  ,the cake first using a petal tip or  a flat petal tip or a ribbon tip.  ,You can criss-cross these if you want to  and you can hold the petal tip either way  ,around for these, with the narrow part of the  teardrop shape facing upwards or downwards.  ,The wide end makes a thicker bandage and the  narrow end gives the bandage a more ruffly  ,edge so you can choose which one you prefer  to be facing upwards, which is more visible.  ,For the top I like to outline the eyes first and  then you can touch up the lines with an offset  ,spatula to nudge them or smooth them to make sure  you've covered up the edges of that black patch.  ,Then I like to pipe a ribbon around the curve  at the bottom of the mummy to make sure that's  ,covered up and then fill in the rest of the  top of the cake. This is a fun design because  ,it doesn't need to be perfectly neat which  takes the pressure off as you're decorating!  ,For this next mini Halloween cake cover a cake  with black frosting or dark purple would look  ,great too. For black frosting that won't stain  your teeth check out my tutorial on 4 hacks for  ,tricky frosting colors and the link is in the  top of the screen and in the video description.  ,Chill the frosting in the fridge for an hour  or the freezer for 30 minutes so it's very  ,firm and then place a spiderweb stencil on top.  Intricate stencils like this are too detailed  ,to make yourself with parchment paper but you  can find them online. This one is made by Sweet  ,Stamp and I'll put my discount code in the video  description. Spread plain white frosting on top,  ,scrape off the excess with an offset spatula and  then peel the stencil off to leave a perfectly  ,detailed spiderweb behind! Now I'll show you how  to add finishing touches and how to transfer these  ,cakes to cake stands. After chilling the cakes  so the frosting is very firm, slide an offset  ,spatula underneath the cake and all the way around  to loosen the bottom of the frosting from the cake  ,board. Make sure you slice through the dot of  buttercream in the middle of the cake board  ,too since that's holding the cake in place. Then  lift the cake up and move it onto a cake stand.  ,A few tips for this: have your cake  stand or platter ready right next to  ,the cake before you move it so you have the  shortest distance to travel with the cake.  ,After you push your offset spatula underneath the  cake, hold it still as you spin your turntable  ,but push down to make sure the bottom edge  of the frosting on the cake stays straight.  ,You might be able to balance the cake on your  offset spatula when you lift it without using  ,anything else but you will need to use your  fingers or another utensil to push the cake  ,off the spatula and onto the cake stand. If you've  chilled your cake properly before doing this so  ,the frosting is very firm, that pressure from  your fingers or a utensil isn't going to damage  ,the frosting because it will hold its shape and  you won't leave any texture or imprints in it.  ,If you want to add any borders around the bottom  of the cakes do this after transferring the cakes  ,to their cake stands. This is a tiny #18 tip for  the spiderweb cake and for this jack-o-lantern  ,cake I'm using a slightly bigger #199 open star  tip. I hope this tutorial has been useful! Tell me  ,in the comments which mini Halloween cake is your  favourite and check out my online cake school for  ,hundreds of cake decorating techniques and designs  on www.britishgirlbakes.com Thanks for watching!

10 Halloween Cake Hacks

10 Halloween Cake Hacks

There are so many design possibilities  for Halloween cakes and in this video I'm  ,going to share 10 hacks for quick and easy  but impressive halloween cake decorating.  ,The first hack is how to create jet black  buttercream. There are a few tricks for this,  ,the first one being to start with a brown base by  mixing cocoa powder and hot water to make a paste  ,and adding that along with melted chocolate  to your buttercream. Melt the chocolate at  ,80% power in the microwave for 30 seconds at a  time so that it doesn't overheat and seize and  ,let it cool to room temperature before adding it  to your buttercream so that you don't melt it.  ,Now add black gel and you'll need a lot less than  if you'd started with plain white buttercream.  ,Next tip: after you've mixed the black in,  cover the bowl and leave it for an hour  ,for the colour to develop and darken and  you'll have a true jet black buttercream,  ,perfect for hHalloween cakes! Look how dark that  is! Create edible spider webs with marshmallows,  ,melting them in the microwave for 30 seconds  and then stirring them to make, well,  ,a mess! and then pinch the mixture between your  fingers and stretch it out to wrap around a cake,  ,changing the angle and making this perfectly  imperfect web of stringy, gooey, delicious  ,strands of marshmallow. Cake toppers will stick  to the marshmallow spiderweb like this bubbling  ,cauldron in my online Striped Spiderweb Cauldron  Cake class or these pumpkins, which are the next  ,hack. For textured pumpkins use a medium round  tip like this # 12 tip, piping curved lines side  ,by side. I usually do four or five lines and these  lines create the effect of the bulges and grooves  ,in a real pumpkin. Piping them onto parchment is  easier than piping them onto the side of a cake.  ,Put them in the freezer for 10 minutes to chill  and set the buttercream and then you'll be able  ,to peel them off the parchment and pick  them up to stick onto the side of a cake.  ,Halloween cakes don't have to be scary and using  non-traditional halloween colours is a great way  ,to make the cake fun instead of creepy. Pale  pink pairs really well with orange and you can  ,incorporate the orange with a sprinkle border,  pushing the sprinkles gently into the bottom inch  ,or so of the cake just after frosting it while  the frosting is still sticky so the sprinkles will  ,attach easily. Some pretty pink swirls piped onto  the top with a 1M star tip finish this off nicely,  ,creating a halloween cake that's whimsical with  a touch of spooky. These chocolate ghosts are a  ,fun hack. Use white chocolate chips or white  candy melts and melt them in the microwave at  ,80 percent power for 30 seconds at a time  so they don't overheat and seize. Lay out  ,a piece of parchment paper and spoon a little  bit of melted chocolate onto it and then use the  ,back of the spoon to smear it out, whisking the  spoon away to leave a little tail on each ghost.  ,These need to set before you can add details  and attach them to a cake so leave them at  ,room temperature for about an hour or put them in  the freezer for five minutes. For the faces melt  ,chocolate chips and add black gel and then pour  the melted chocolate into a ziploc bag and cut  ,off a corner and then pipe on dots for the eyes  and mouth. Peel the ghosts off the parchment paper  ,and press them into a cake while the frosting is  still soft and sticky and they'll attach easily.  ,For really easy homemade cake toppers cut out  cookies in Halloween shapes and freeze them for  ,an hour before baking them so that they hold their  shape and don't expand into blobs in the oven.  ,Let them cool completely and then pipe or spread  buttercream to decorate them. Holding your piping  ,tip a little bit above the cookie as you pipe  will help you get a smooth outline and if you  ,want to fill that in, pipe buttercream into the  middle and then use an offset spatula to spread  ,the buttercream from the edge of the cookie  towards the middle to smooth the surface.  ,Use black buttercream or melted chocolate  tinted black to pipe the face with a piping  ,bag or just a ziplock bag with a corner cut off.  To attach the cookie to a cake spread or pipe  ,a line of buttercream or melted chocolate up  the back of the cookie and press a straw into it  ,and the chocolate or buttercream will act as glue.  Put the cookie in the freezer for 5 minutes to set  ,the buttercream decoration and the buttercream  or chocolate glue on the back of the cookie and  ,then push the straw into your cake to secure your  cookie cake topper in place. How adorable is this  ,cake?! Piping your design straight onto a cake? To  make it easier and neater draw or trace the design  ,first onto paper or parchment paper and then cut  it out and hold it against the side of your cake  ,after the frosting has set so you don't damage  it. Use a toothpick to draw around the edge of  ,the shape, creating a guide to pipe onto so  you don't have to freehand the shape. Don't  ,like your piping? Press sprinkles or coloured  sugar over the outline. If the frosting on the  ,cake has set you won't damage it with the  pressure of your hand against the sprinkles  ,but because you've just piped the shape onto  the cake, that frosting will still be soft and  ,sticky so the sprinkles or coloured sugar will  stick to the outline easily. Use a paint brush  ,to brush off the extra sprinkles or sugar and a  large powder brush works best for large areas but  ,a small stiff brush is best for small areas like  the spaces in between the grooves of this pumpkin.  ,Adding sprinkles or sugar to the piping  makes the lines colourful and sparkly  ,but also they'll appear much neater. With  parchment paper you can create your own stencils!  ,Draw or trace your design, cut it out and  press the parchment paper against your cake.  ,This only works when the frosting is firm so I put  my cakes in the fridge for at least an hour before  ,doing this. Spread buttercream over your homemade  stencil and then smooth it with a cake scraper.  ,With this technique you can make your own free  stencils in whatever shape and size you like,  ,saving lots of money and creating unlimited  cake designs. After you peel the parchment  ,off you can touch up any smudges in the  outline of your shape with a toothpick,  ,scraping gently to remove unwanted buttercream.  Want to create a design with lots of colours?  ,If you don't have several small round piping  tips you can pipe your design with ziploc bags,  ,filling each one with a bit of coloured  buttercream and cutting off a tiny piece from  ,one corner of the bag. Then squeeze the bag to  push the buttercream through that hole. Use 5, 10,  ,or however many colours you like without spending  forever washing and drying piping bags and piping  ,tips in between each colour. You can pipe lines  to create outlines or to fill in shapes or pipe  ,dots and the more you cut off the corner of your  ziplock bag the wider your lines or dots will be  ,when you squeeze the buttercream out of the bag.  You would never know that intricate cakes like  ,this were created with just a few ziplock bags! 6 Last-Minute Halloween Cupcake Ideas

6 Last-Minute Halloween Cupcake Ideas

(Halloween music),- Hey munchies, welcome to the channel.,If you're new or if you're not, I'm Alyssia, and I am stoked, you're here either way.,At Mind Over Much,,Halloween is one of our favorite times of year.,There are only a few days left until Halloween.,So this week I thought I would share, some last minute Halloween cupcake ideas.,The idea is that these decorations can be done easily, without much effort, time or stress, while still looking impressive and festive.,So I used all store bought cake and frostings,to keep it simple.,This video is not about the recipes.,Of course you can use any store bought or homemade, cake recipes or frosting recipes if you would like.,My approach with this video was really,,go online and test out, some of the Halloween cupcake decor ideas that I saw,and then share the ones, that took the least time and stress with you here.,First up, a pull-apart ghost.,This is so easy.,Once I have my cupcakes baked and cooled,,I arranged them on a tray in a shape of a ghost,,tightly packed.,This template required 24 cupcakes.,I added a plain white frosting to a decorating bag, without a tip so that I could easily apply the frosting,to the entire cake top surface,,starting from the outside and working in.,My advice is be liberal here.,More frosting makes it easier to spread, without nicking the tops of the cupcakes.,Use an offset spatula to evenly coat the frosting.,And instead of trying to make it super smooth,,I intentionally made it look rustic with texture.,I also used black decorating gel,to draw the outline of the eyes and the mouth,,and then filled those in.,So this is a super fun and impressive display, for a Halloween party with a larger crowd,,but it takes almost no time.,It's, you know, plain frosting,,requires no fancy tips or decorating ability.,The most intimidating part was drawing those eyes and mouth.,And even that is doable with, you know,,just taking a breath.,Remember there's no perfect ghost anyway, right?,So don't feel that the eyes or mouth, need to look any specific way.,Plus don't forget that at the end of the day,,everyone is going to pull these apart to eat them anyway.,Next up, another pull-apart.,This time, it's a spider web.,Same thing, this time I used funfetti, and chocolate cupcakes to build a circular shape.,Of course, for all of these,,you can use any flavor cupcakes you prefer.,I found store bought orange frosting,,which made it even easier.,I didn't need to do any of the coloring,or mixing of the frostings on my own.,Nice!,So same as before,,I piped the frosting liberally before spreading.,That black decorating gel decor, was a little more intimidating here, but still not so bad.,So I added a dot in the middle, and then circles of the gel around expanding outwards.,It does not need to be perfect to look legit.,I just used a skewer to drag the gel, from the center to the outside to create the web effect.,And then I added a little plastic black spider on top,to complete the look.,Seriously, that took 10 minutes.,Both of those pull up our options really are great,,because you can do them,if you have very little experience with decorating cupcakes.,Next up, witch's hat cupcakes.,Now, in my opinion,,these are the most impressive looking of the day.,And they were probably the most fun for me to make,,especially considering how easy they actually are.,I start with the hats,,which are just Oreo cookies with the icing scraped out,and a little dollop of colored frosting.,Again, I use the pre-made orange.,I also used a decorative tip,and I've linked all of the types that I used,in the description box below.,But you could just use a dollop of icing, without a tip as well.,I added some sprinkles and a Hershey's Chocolate Kiss,to create the hat effect.,Voila, a witches hat.,For the cupcake, which has chocolate flavor this time,,I did dollops of green and purple frosting, with a large decorating tip.,This part looks intimidating if you've never done it before,,but this kind of piping is actually so easy.,It's all about how much pressure you put on the bag,and when you release that pressure.,A little practice is all it takes,to make these look masterful,,and if the top isn't perfect, who cares?,You're squishing that witch's hat on top anyway.,Boom!,I love these.,So much personality and Halloween flare, without even being spooky.,If you are enjoying these so far,,I would love it if you would subscribe and hit the bell, for more holiday content coming soon.,Okay, next up baby ghost cupcakes.,These are easy,,but they required a little more practice for me,than the witch's hat.,I used a mini red velvet cupcakes, and a store bought marshmallow cream frosting, with a wide circular decorating tip.,It's just a little swoosh of frosting,,and I use chocolate chips for the eyes.,So these are super cute,,but as simple as they are, they may have actually been, the hardest ones of the day for me.,Of course, that is saying a lot, because they still weren't too stressful, and all of these are pretty easy.,I mean, that's the point.,These spooky spiders, might've been the second hardest actually.,They start off really easy.,I just spread icing over the top,,orange or white, or you could use any color you want.,The spider comes from an Oreo cookie, where I used icing to glue on the eye sprinkles, and use chocolate frosting in a piping bag, with a small decorating tip to pipe on the legs.,The legs took some practice to release at the right time.,But my recommendation,is to go from the outside to the middle,,because the middle part will be covered, with the Oreo spider topper,,so you won't see any of those imperfections.,Adorable!,All of these are just so fun.,So this last one might be my favorite.,Mummy cupcakes.,I glued on some large sprinkle eyes with frosting,,and then I used a wide and flat decorating tip, with white frosting to create mummy wrapping.,I just alternated directions, across and down the cupcake going around the eyes.,I thought that these were going to be,way harder than they were.,They were actually really easy and very forgiving,,because you could just cover up mistakes,by going over the wraps diagonally.,And no mummy is perfect either, right?,Okay, so I hope that you found, these last minute cupcake ideas helpful.,I hope that you will share this video if you enjoyed it.,Comment below and let me know which was your favorite.,If you are looking for more fun Halloween ideas,,last week I shared some spooky glow in the dark drinks.,And we always get so excited and have had a lot of fun, with our Halloween videos in the past,,so I will link some of my favorite from previous years,in the description box below.,Thank you so much for being here.,Have a happy Halloween. Be safe.,I'll see you soon with more fall and holiday content.,And remember it's all a matter of Mind Over Munch.
