hi crazy grandma Brenda here it's,Halloween time and I have decided to,have a potluck dinner at my house so I,was looking on the internet to try and,come up with some great ideas that would,make this event easy on everyone so I,love soup,and I love soup pretty much year round,but especially during fall so I have,decided to do a soup pot luck so people,will come and put their soups in my soup,warmer I was at a wedding reception once,and they served at the wedding reception,soups and they just use smaller cups so,that people could come back and try all,the different kinds of soups thus the,reason why I want to do a suit potluck,because I love to taste everybody else's,favorite soups along with soups I,decided to do a veggie tray and a dip,so my daughter-in-law has a great veggie,dip recipe that her mom has always used,and so I got that dip recipe from her,mom and it's super easy it's basically a,package of cream cheese 1/4 of a cup of,mayonnaise and then a whole mixture of,veggies so 2 tablespoons of each 2,tablespoons of green peppers green,onions carrots celery all things that,you should have around your house and,then as far as seasoning goes it's 1/8,of a teaspoon of garlic powder and 1/4,of a teaspoon of just any seasoning salt,Lowery's or whatever you may have and,then last but not least pimento now this,is not something that I have around my,house and every time I want to make this,dip I have to go in search of pimentos,pimentos are not an easy find at the,grocery store I have to say so I want,you all to comment below 2 tablespoons,of pimento by the way I want you all the,comment below of where you think you,will find pimentos in the grocery store,because it's not where I thought it was,going to be,so in my description I will comment as,to where I found the pimentos and you,comment where you think,pimentos should be found so quick and,easy dip make sure that you make it in,the morning of your party so that it can,chill in the fridge for a few hours and,then I thought it would be really cute,to serve it in a pumpkin so I got this,small pumpkin cleaned it outlined it,with plastic wrap and then I'm just,going to put my dip in the pumpkin okay,next we're going to make a really easy,and great punch all it takes is apple,juice cranberry juice Hawaiian Punch or,any kind of fruit punch and ginger ale,so you're going to do equal amounts of,the juices so I have 64 ounce apple,juice and I I don't know if boy enzymes,comes in anything smaller than this big,ol gallon so we're just gonna measure,out,okay so just stir it all up a dice do,dry ice if you want so I was trying to,come up with some ideas of things that I,could float in the punch to make it more,spooky I added a few little plastic,spiders another idea I came up with was,you could freeze the spiders in ice,cubes then you'd have it a whole bunch,of spiders throughout your punch so this,is just one of ideas for a great potluck,meal please comment below if you have,some other quick and easy ideas for a,nice family potluck at Halloween time,and if you have not subscribed to our,Channel please subscribe to our Channel,and click on the notification bell so,you'll be notified whenever we come out,with new and creative crazy grandma,videos have a great day and remember,always have a crazy day

HALLOWEEN PARTY TREATS 2020 | DIY Party Food Ideas

hey guys welcome back today we are in,the kitchen because we're making some,halloween treats,and i don't know about you but i am,super into halloween this year,i'm not sure if it's because we,decorated early or,maybe just because all of the holidays,in 2020,have been canceled so far i'm not really,sure,but regardless we're making four sweet,treats and,too salty today they will be perfect for,your halloween get together,or if you just want to make something,fun for your family or for your kids,or just for yourself that works too,because,you know i'm excited to eat some of,these today if you are new here welcome,and i hope you hit that subscribe button,let's get right into that first treat,we're starting out with no bake,candy corn cheesecakes first we're gonna,grab some graham crackers,and pound them up to make some graham,cracker crumbs,you'll need 3 4 cups of the crumbs,1 8 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons of,melted butter,stir all this together until all of the,crumbs are moist,now grab whatever size cups or dishes,that you would like to use,here i'm using three and a half ounce,cups and this recipe will make,12 portions scoop a little bit of the,graham cracker mixture,into the bottom of the cup to make a,crust layer,now put this aside for later you'll need,16 ounces of cream cheese,and mix that for one to two minutes or,until it is nice and smooth,now add one cup of powdered sugar,two teaspoons of lemon juice one,teaspoon of vanilla extract,and mix until it's well combined now put,that mixture to the side,and you'll need one and a half cups of,cold heavy whipping cream,whisk that together until there are,stiff peaks,now use a spatula to fold the whipped,cream into the cream cheese mixture,now grab a piping bag or if you're,diying it like me,grab a ziploc and put one third of it,into the bag,now add yellow food coloring to what's,remaining in your bowl,until you get that bright candy corn,yellow,now put half of the yellow into another,piping bag,now to make orange with what's remaining,and then you guessed it put that into a,piping bag,grab your yellow cut the tip off and,start piping your first layer,you could spoon your layers in but,piping them is going to ensure that you,have defined layers,after each layer make sure you shake the,cup so it lays flat,before adding the next and then top with,candy corn,all right i'm so excited to try this it,turned out just adorable and it's the,perfect size like a little,shooter dessert i think i will add a,little dollop of whipped cream next time,so the candy corn sits a little higher,plus whipped cream never hurt anyone,but let's see what it tastes like,oh yeah i will be making this again,um,i'm glad i decided to do the crust i,almost just skipped it but,honestly the crust is the best part all,right i'm going to finish this up and,get on to our next one,meringue ghosts are up next,first separate four large eggs,beat the egg whites until foamy and then,add half,a teaspoon of cream of tartar,and then continue to beat it until it,holds soft peaks,while you continue to mix slowly add 1,cup,of powdered sugar,until the meringue holds glossy stiff,peaks,then gently fold in 1 teaspoon of,vanilla extract,once complete transfer the meringue into,a piping bag,i have a little hack for you find the,corner of the bag and put it into the,center,of a bowl and wrap the edge of the bag,around the bowl,this will prop up the bag and it makes,your life so much easier,now unlined baking sheet pipe your ghost,in a swirl motion,can you guys tell us a little nervous,start here,now pop them in the oven for an hour at,2 25,and then turn out the oven and let them,cool for an hour once they're completely,cool i took them out of the oven and,grabbed this edible food marker i got at,michael's,and i drew little faces on them i think,these will look,so cute as a little cake or cupcake,topper,all right guys is this not the cutest,thing you've ever seen,i mean come on like why have i never,done this before let's see how they,taste,can you hear that,if you've never had a meringue before,it's kind of like,a crunchy marshmallow i guess delicious,oh these might be my favorite,i don't want to eat his little face,hmm,next up are dirt cups and we're going to,kind of speed through it until we get to,the decorations,i made some instant chocolate pudding,and separated the,cookies and cream from the oreo,i then mashed up the cookie part this,will be our top soil,you could start assembling now but i,like more layers than that so i whipped,up some,heavy cream and i ended up adding the,oreo cream as well,just so it didn't go to waste and then i,mixed in some of the pudding,so now we can make layers with the,pudding the mousse like,mixture i made extra of the crust from,the candy corn cheesecake on purpose,and then of course the oreos for the top,layer and then i started to assemble,and i mixed up the layers as i went,there's no need for them to match,as long as the oreos are on the top i,use a little pumpkin candy corns to,decorate one as a pumpkin patch,and this is especially cute with a,larger cup,and then of course the classic dirt cup,with gummy worms,i added some skull and bone candies to,one of them,and then i wrote rip with that edible,marker on a mulatto cookie to make it,look like a tombstone,i think these little dirt cups turned,out so cute and i think the little,tombstone one is my favorite i still,have more treats to eat later so i think,i,am going to skip eating this one and,give this one to will he's over there,studying so i keep bringing him,his little treats and he's a happy,camper,now on to halloween chocolate covered,oreos go ahead and melt down your,favorite melting chocolate and put it in,a piping bag,then pipe horizontal stripes all over,your oreo,and before it dries add two little,eyeball candies,and you have a mummy,melt down some milk chocolate and put,your oreo on a skewer,i then insert the oreo into the,chocolate and spoon,more on top give it a little shake to,get the excess off,and transfer to parchment paper,once your chocolate is set you can,really decorate these however you'd like,i decided to write boo and make the o's,into two little eyeballs,and then i also made a spider web,for some reason my piping game was a,little off this day,and on days like that i normally just,resort to fun colors,as you guys know the chocolate dip oreos,are delicious i kind of already ate all,the,decorating mess-ups so i'm not going to,try one right now for you guys,but let's just get right into our next,snack,now we're switching from sweet to savory,with this pumpkin cheese ball,you'll need 16 ounces of cream cheese,go ahead and mix that up until it's,smooth,add two tablespoons of ranch seasoning,as many chives as you'd like i cut up,three,and then one minced jalapeno if you're,not a fan of spice you can use,one fourth of a bell pepper and then add,one cup,of shredded cheddar cheese and mix,together,spoon the mixture into some plastic wrap,wrap it up and then shape,into your pumpkin,and then put it in the fridge for at,least an hour this will make it easier,to work with,once it's chilled unwrap it and roll it,into your favorite cheesy chips,i use cheddar pringles but you can also,use doritos,grab a string and press it diagonally,into your cheese ball,to make the little indents on the,pumpkin,and then grab the top of your jalapeno,or your bell pepper,for the stem,okay i need to find the ugliest side of,this thing because i still have to take,cute pictures of it hopefully,let's see,mmm oh wow,i'm so bad like why haven't i made a,cheese ball before,ever in my life it's genius it's easy,delicious it does have a kick to it so,if you don't like jalapenos do the bell,peppers instead,at our party i'm gonna serve this as,well as some guacamole,and then some buffalo chicken dip i feel,like the green of the guac and the,orange of the buffalo dip,will work well for halloween and i'm,going to serve them with,these blue corn tortilla chips because,they're black,i might need to steal one more,now on to deviled eggs decorated in five,halloweeny ways,i already hard-boiled all of my eggs but,i did take a few and crack them with a,spoon,then i used red food dye to color some,hot water,and let the eggs soak in the water for,about 10 minutes,and then of course i accidentally bumped,the counter and made a mess out of my,white towel,fun stuff i went ahead and did the same,with some black food coloring,and then i threw in some gloves and,peeled the eggs to reveal,this cracked effect,i took the egg we soaked in the red dye,filled it up and then placed an olive on,top,to be an eyeball,and then i took some black chips broke,them up to make little wings,for a bat,and then i took some filling and colored,it green i think in the future i'll just,add some avocado to get a more,natural green,and then i filled the black cracked egg,this is supposed to be like a rotten egg,i felt like it needed a little something,so i just added some black pepper,and then i colored some filling orange,filled up some eggs,added a little sprinkle of paprika and,then a chive,for a pumpkin stem,and then last but not least i cut up,some olives to make a little spider,okay i am so glad i made these i almost,didn't but i think they turned out,so cute and deviled eggs are one of,those things that i never,think about ever but when they're on a,potluck,or at someone's party or something,people eat them,up fast and it's just i don't know it,always shocks me that,they eat them so fast so i'm glad that i,found some cute ways to decorate them,for,halloween i hope you guys got a little,bit of halloween inspiration today,and hopefully had some fun let me know,down in vlogtober 2019- day 25 ll Yummy Halloween Potluck!

how's your day,did you miss me taste Friday yeah found,some cool candy pops here from Waterloo,this morning it's kind of cool almost,like when pops got teased green lips and,one yeah hey friends is Friday October,day number 25 just got home it was a,onesie I got her some lippy lollipop,Ring Pop thingy majiggy at walkers this,morning you like it yeah you better,enjoy this because while anyway gay go,right to do laundry because I just wanna,relax and chill tomorrow I might go out,to stores and look for some stuff for,Ava but it's gonna rain tomorrow so,we'll see and then Sunday hopefully you,want to get pictures on this Sunday at,the park take pictures the place where,you saw the tree house that's nice okay,and after that you can play a little bit,okay got take it your your pictures,where you're at you - okay thank you,much fun so much fun yeah we take,pictures first and have fun okay deal,pinky pinky butts it was so fun and,relaxing so much laughs no word when,ippolit today oh my gosh,as you guys saw amazing food,it was just nice and left a lot of,stories and doesn't dad and just very,creative stuff it was so fun relaxing I,had chart days today and I helped a few,people with their charts and stuff and,yeah I was like I can't wait to leave,work just relax,I know I watch it you guys in a few,minutes um the usual so yeah I'm gonna,try to catch up on some shows too so,yeah I'm being a wigger right now it's,not in that cold but just feel like,walking around in my vest Amos says I,don't like Jojo I see what right now,like yeah her voice is so irritating the,kids love her,so don't hate I cannot stand her voice,but she's is so positive so like I think,I'm like that too but I turn to see,where yay or nay just snacking on some,cheese bread baby that's my dinner back,it's like an hour just caught up on,emergence so freaking good,and then just notice that my other show,Castlerock on Hulu start it and I'll,probably start watching that later but,or maybe I don't know but I'm Stan's,blog because I'm all of it not much to,say,I sort of chill everything every time I,say I'm gonna chill I don't but I might,start working on Ava's number four,because like I said plan on doing their,flow shoots on Sunday and I'm like step,I haven't worked on the letters you know,glitter and stuff I could either do it,later today or tomorrow morning but I'm,too anxious and excited but if I do,of course I showed you guys and then,tomorrow well I'm gonna take a trip to,Sam's Club so yeah I will see you,tomorrow happy till birthday number,25 bye

Halloween Potluck Black Bean Chili/Soup |The Vibrant Kitchen with Heidi Bennett

thank you,hey everybody this is Heidi Bennett,welcome to the vibrant kitchen I love,sharing recipes and also trips down,memory lane by going through vintage,cookbooks I do taste tests and I also,invite in fresh new Talent so today this,recipe is a little bit different because,it's also kind of a co-lab with our new,show which is Justine's Cuisine so also,today we're going to be launching that,new show so make sure to subscribe to,this channel so you can check out,Justine's new show so what I invited,Justine to do was I asked her hey,imagine that I Heidi am having a potluck,to celebrate Day of the Dead and,Halloween,and make something for that potluck so I,still don't even know what it is that,she's made but,um I'm looking forward to sharing that,with you on the channel here and then,I'm going to share what I decided to,make which is a black bean chili that,has as you can see some Citrus in it,there's orange there's bell pepper,garlic onion,and a little bit of Chipotle and,everything else you can make this,vegetarian so easily in fact the only,thing non-vegetarian here is this beef,bone broth that happens to be one of my,favorite things it's this rolly Roadie,beef bone broth but you can have,obviously veggie bone broth in it easily,or just water there's plenty of flavor,here so just water works fine too so all,of the ingredients will be listed below,and you can watch this video to go step,by step with me let's get over to that,stove and get cooking,all right first thing we're gonna do is,get this pot,heat it up right now I'm gonna go for,high and the reason I'm going to do high,is because I'm going to add,red bell pepper,obviously you can use yellow if you like,Green you can use green I do not so,yellow orange red I start out with that,in a dry pan first because I want to get,some char,and I'm already smelling that roasty,scent,at home I have a gas stove and I like to,take the whole bell pepper,get the gas burner going and then just,Char it directly on the burner here at,David's we're doing it this way which,also works beautifully,getting to see those colors,those little chars,now let's add some olive oil,this is a couple of tablespoons,hmm,you can use a chopped white onion or,yellow onion Red Onion whatever you like,I adjusted this again down to a low a,medium low,all right,so we're gonna let these guys soften,getting a little bit of brown color is,fine,just keep an eye on them keep them,swirling about,depending on what pot you use,what the weather's like,what kind of stove top you're using,how finely you chop an ingredient,timing's always going to be a little bit,different,and temperature too so that's why I like,to just keep an eye on things adjust the,temperature as needed,and relax and that's why I actually love,cooking in the kitchen by myself so I,don't get distracted,so this Baby's on medium low onions are,looking,soft enough to me,so I'm going to add this is about three,cloves of garlic,there's still enough fat in the pan so I,didn't need to add any more oil,I'm just gonna,swirl them around for about,half a minute,kind of take the raw edge off of them,I'm going to add about a tablespoon of,cumin,AKA cumin,I like to add it into at this point to,get it into the fat,so that can help,bring out the flavor,and speaking of fat things are starting,to look a little dry so I'm going to add,a little bit more olive oil,okay,add your favorite tomatoes,I found these whole organic fire roasted,tomatoes so I'm just gonna dump them in,and then,smoosh them,all right turning this up,a little bit higher now that there's,more ingredients and some liquid,speaking of smush power besides crushing,up these tomatoes,once this chili is done you can also,um,stick blender it or blender about half,of it just to get some different,textures going on I'll leave that up to,you,now,black bean time,these particular cans of black beans,there was no salt in them,so I'm going to be pretty generous here,and then we'll adjust for flavor,saltiness later,and to add more smokiness and obviously,some heat,Chipotle in Adobo,gonna start,here there it is there's the one,Chipotle,I'm gonna smoosh it you know how I'm,gonna do it with my fingers,the last two ingredients for this stage,it's the bone broth or like I said use,veggie broth or water,and the orange,so we have the option of putting in some,lime juice but what I'd like to do is,give this,a chance to really cook through and see,where we're at,see if we need a little more of that,Citrus kick or if we just want to put,the limes on the side,and definitely make this the day ahead,or two days ahead,to really get everybody playing well,together,so I'm going to put the lid on this,put it on high and once it starts,bubbling,I'll turn it down to a simmer,and then we'll let it go for a half hour,at least,all right so soup is done and we did do,a little stick blender Magic on it to,give it a little more body and I did,decide to leave the lemons out and so,they're the lemons the limes Limon out,and so it's just here so we can add it,in if we like,taste your chili see what you want to,add to it,there's also cojita cheese you could do,some shredded cheddar that would be good,too,a few green onions,throwing those all over the place,these are some toasted pepitas AKA,pumpkin seeds got sour cream some,cilantro so it's a really a Choose Your,Own Adventure chili and we presented it,in my Fiestaware my beautiful Fiestaware,but for the potluck I'm going calm,postables so just a big stack of,compostable bowls will make cleanup,really easy for you and for your guests,just for fun I thought I'd bring for you,know whatever else is coming for the,potluck for Halloween and Dia de los,Muertos maybe something Justine is,bringing paper plates and these really,fun vintage paper plate holders,I love these colors these are straight,out of the 60s and,these gorgeous fishies,they're just so mid-century right,so I love mixing in some vintage stuff,too,and see that's where the plates go,and obviously I brought some guac some,salsa some of my favorite chips and so,this is it here's the party here's the,sour cream here's all the little sides,and yeah as you can see this came,together pretty quickly and like I said,make that chili the day beforehand and,then just keep it heated in your crock,pot or your instant we're making Satan's fun,hi everyone I'm Karin Ahmed and who,doesn't love a deviled egg but in this,recipe I'm going to show you how to take,a delicious deviled egg and turn it into,something quite satanic I've already pre,boiled 12 eggs and taken the shells off,now if you want to watch a really,interesting way to shell your eggs I'm,going to leave a link at the end of this,video to show you how my son does this,the Russian hacker style slice all of,your boiled eggs horizontally and add,all of the yolks into a bowl where I'm,going to add half that weight of,mayonnaise and I'm going to mix it,together really really well you want to,make sure there are no lumps in this at,all because we're going to pipe it later,so it's really important also a little,bit of food coloring now this is going,to give your Satan baby or your Satan,fetus that really devilish look I'm,going to take some sriracha and I'm,going to mix it together with some,bloomed gelatin which is basically just,gelatin that's been mixed with water and,I'm going to fill the white cases of the,eggs with this now it looks like,amniotic fluid I'm gonna stick this in,the refrigerator just for a few minutes,it's not gonna take very long to harden,once the whites of my eggs are ready,it's time to pipe the little fetuses I'm,going to use a tip number 12 as well as,a disposable icing bag I'm going to add,my egg yolk mixture into this bag and,I'm going to start piping out the head,followed by the body-switching tips I'm,now going to use a size 3 for the finer,details I'm going to pipe out some horns,and hands and legs and a tail keep a,toothpick handy in case your tip number,3 gets clogged if that does happen all,you need to do is flush it out using a,toothpick and to finish this up I'm,going to add a coriander seed which,looks like a perfectly evil eye to each,one of my fetuses and your Satan's small,is ready I've made these a few times and,all my friends found them really creepy,to eat but it is truly delicious if you,like some other creepy recipes stay,tuned for my creepy white chocolate,Halloween mice these will make a,wonderful addition to your table as well,I hope you enjoyed this recipe thank you,so much for joining me on cravings food,adventures please make sure to leave me,a comment and don't forget I upload new,videos every Friday so make sure that,you're the first to see them and from my,friends Satan and myself I wish you see,you soon bye

foreign,October,the sound you hear is Windswept leaves,this is the start of October pods,Halloween potluck,I've invited some guests over tonight,Old Friends of the show and new and,we've all brought covered dishes filled,with tricks treats and a few scares,come inside won't you,Hollows even or Halloween being the Eve,or vigil of All Hallows or All Saints,Day is the last night of October on this,night there should be nothing but,laughter fun and mystery it is the night,when fairies dance ghosts witches and,mischief-making Devils wander around it,is the night when all sorts of charms,and spells are invoked for prying into,the future by all young folk and,sometimes by folk who are not quite so,young,in getting up a Halloween party,everything should be made as mysterious,as possible the room or rooms in which,most of the games are to be played,should be decorated as grotesquely as,possible jack-o-lanterns made up from,apples cucumbers squash and of course,pumpkins,jack-o-lanterns should be placed around,on tables mantels Corners Etc a skull,and crossbones placed over the door,entering the house would be very,appropriate the hall should be in total,darkness except for the light coming,from the jack-o-lanterns of all shapes,and sizes in various places throughout,the house the dining room should be,decorated with Autumn Leaves goldenrod,yellow chrysanthemums and strings of,cranberries for a table centerpiece a,large pumpkin could be used with the top,cut off and partly filled with water in,which a large bunch of yellow,chrysanthemums or Golden Rod,replaced the dining room should also be,in total darkness it except for the,light given by the jack-o-lanterns until,the guests are seated at which point,they should unmask speaking of dinner,parties we're joined tonight by famed,Hostess Anna star of YouTube's retro,recipe Channel cooking the books Anna is,here to prepare a very special treat for,us today I'm going to be preparing,ghost cake with flaming eyes and get,ready for this photo,guys,excited about this cake I never made,this cake growing up perfect timing it's,Halloween we got a spooky cake we're,gonna have this for dessert and I'm,super excited about it in order to make,your ghost cake with flaming eyes you,are going to need one package of yellow,cake mix with pudding Betty Crocker of,course in the interest of saving time I,did end up baking this and cooling it,ahead of time you just bake it according,to package directions in a 9x13 pan,you're also going to need two sugar,cubes a teaspoon of lemon extract and,some black licorice string which I,couldn't find what I ended up getting is,some pull and peels so my ghost is just,going to be wearing lipstick this season,the last ingredient a package of Fluffy,White Frosting mix I have run into this,before I cannot find these frosting,mixes in store I did find some online,but it was something like I would have,to purchase 12 boxes for fifty dollars I,didn't really want to do that great deal,but I'm not going to use 12 packages of,Fluffy White Frosting mix I did end up,finding on the Betty Crocker website a,recipe for fluffy white frosting it is,an egg white based icing a little bit,nervous about them it should be fine but,there's also going to be some boiling,sugar that I have to stream into them so,we'll check back on Anna throughout the,night to see how her cake is coming,along,after the supper is over at your,Halloween party and while the guests are,still seated a splendid idea would be to,extinguish the lights and to have one or,more of the party goers tell ghost,stories,when I was 10 we lived in a house in,Holland PA a little town in Bucks County,it's an old part of the country the air,is thick with history everywhere you go,the house was a multi-story brick home,with dark wood accents throughout,it was about a hundred years old,in this house there was a mother-in-law,Suite,I had never known of such a thing and,was immensely Overjoyed when I found out,it was like a studio apartment located,inside the house,there was a little kitchenette area with,a sink stove and oven a tiny couch for,visitors,even a brass framed bed,I was so young I honestly thought it was,made of gold,and oh how my parents laughed at that,one,the furniture in this room had all come,with the house,which was not something I thought of,before but,definitely after,I wanted to live in this room,but my parents said it wasn't fair for,any of us three children to get that,room,it was to be our playroom that we shared,luckily for me my older sister was too,old for playing with toys,and my brother was more interested in,Nintendo so the mother-in-law is sweet,became my place,ever since I was a child I've been,sensitive,sensitive to the presence of spirits and,other entities,I was used to being alone in a room yet,still hearing an unseen mouth Whispering,my name this was the sort of thing that,was always happening to me,always except for those times when I was,playing in that playroom,the Mother-in-law Suite,it was unusually quiet in there,as a child I just enjoyed the quiet,solitude,when you have my gift,that is something you just don't get,my favorite way to play in that room was,to have tea time,I had a special tea set for playing,it was white with pastel flowers,and gold accents on the rims lids and,handles of the dishes,the set seems seems so grown up to me I,loved pretending I was hosting a ladies,tea party with the finest ladies around,all decked out in white lace with those,little gloves on you know the kind they,make no sense to us now but in the past,we're all the rage for dainty girls and,fine women,that's what I was doing,the time I met her,I was in my nightgown,it was Saturday evening in the fall,the wind outside was perfectly crisp,with the apples in our cider,fallen leaves caught the wind with their,brittle edges and skittered against the,windows of our house,sounding off a countdown to Winter,it was the perfect weather for a tea,party I suppose,and with that thought spurred on by the,weather outside I made my way down to my,apartment,nothing seemed out of the ordinary as I,set up my tea party I gathered the cups,and saucers setting them where they,belonged on the table I pretended that,the teapot had started whistling and,said tease on ladies,then I heard a brittle voice say,oh lovely,in response to me,I tensed up,my back was to the bed and it sounded,like the voice had come from behind me,I was used to hearing things mind you,that are nowhere to be seen but,this was different,this was a voice I hadn't heard before,this was clearly spoken,this was to me not just around me,this was my quiet place nothing ever,talked to be in here that I couldn't see,but not only could I hear her,felt her now,she was behind me sitting on the bed I,felt her eyes on me as I lifted the pot,off the stove and carried it to the,table I kept my back to the bed,I was terrified to look behind me I knew,this must have been her apartment,not mine,I kept moving through my routine I,poured tea in each cup carefully slowly,so as not to spill,I was okay as long as I kept moving,I got to the third cup,the one in front of the bed,just a wee bit more deer,I'm terribly cold,she said to me as I poured the water,into her cup,so I poured a little more,she sighed gratefully behind me,she was ready to warm her cold bones,with my hot tea except,this was cold water,and she wasn't here,not with her bones anyway,I offered my guests cookies and biscuits,and a less shaky voice than I expected,this gave me some much needed courage as,I heard a response,oh Deary I would love a biscuit,hmm it's been so long and I'm so hungry,her old voice trailed off sounding,forlorn,perhaps she knew she was dead,with clammy hands,and sharp little breaths that puffed out,like the beating of butterfly wings I,reached out and grabbed a biscuit,I could still feel her eyes on me heard,her breath wheeze in and out from her,frail chest,like wind fluttering on lace curtains,steeled myself,I placed her biscuit on the saucer and,spun around,and there was only the empty bed smiling,at me,nothing to be afraid of,she was just a little old lady,who wasn't even here anymore,I never saw her never heard her voice,again after that day,but,I could always feel her presence in that,room,fluttering about like the wings of a,butterfly,foreign,souvenir game,suspend apples from strings in the,doorway or from the ceiling at the,proper height to be caught between the,teeth the first successful player wins a,prize,these prizes should be Halloween,souvenirs like plastic spiders rubber,snakes chattering teeth whoopee cushions,finger cuffs or wax vampire fangs,but before we get carried away let's,head back to the kitchen and see how,Anna's ghost cake is coming along,exactly what I'm doing,egg whites with an electric mixer on,high speed until stiff peaks form,I don't make a lot of meringues can you,tell it's said to beat them for 10,minutes but I guess it was you know,you're using a hand mixer I think this,is like almost where it needs to be I,hope I didn't like overdo it is this,right if this doesn't work for whatever,reason I do have a little bit of a,backup plan so,this is not gonna work,I am not feeling very hopeful right now,I just wanted a festive ghost cake you,know what let's go we're gonna do this,I just oh I don't like the look of this,I think this is bad I think this is very,bad oh no,that's wrong that did not work oh no,good luck Anna,you know Halloween is Rich with many,time-honored Traditions games and,rituals for divining the identity of,one's true love,here are a few,where dwells my lover,steal out unobserved at midnight,plucking a small lock of your own hair,then recite this rhyme,I pluck this lock of hair off my head,to tell whence comes the one I shall win,fly silken hair fly all the world round,until you reach the spot where my true,love is found,cast these hairs into the breeze,whatever Direction it is blown in is,believed to be the location of your,future matrimonial partner,there is also the ritual of the magic,stairs,walked backward down darkened stairs,folding a lighted candle above your head,upon reaching the bottom turn suddenly,and before you will stand the object of,your heart's desire,and so the Journey Down The Magic stairs,shall end in lovers meeting,this one Halloween I must have been,around 14 because I couldn't drive yet,I got invited to my first party where,the number of girls in attendance was,something I'd be interested in,in particular there was this one girl,named Heidi who I had been crushing on,all year,I'm not even sure she knew I existed but,everybody else knew about my crush on,her,she was dressed as Cleopatra and she was,luminous,I was dressed as Jason Voorhees,a good costume for parties like this,because I could always slip off my,hockey mask if any kissing needed to be,done,the guys who are dressed up in Zombie or,werewolf makeup,they weren't so lucky,the party was being thrown by this kid a,grade or two above me who lived with her,dad in this old farmhouse,her dad was a deer hunter so there was,Taxidermy hanging from the walls and,just about every single wood paneled,room,it was creepy,anyway her dad worked the third and he'd,be gone all night and as you might have,guessed kids started playing truth or,dare and spin the bottle,at some point I went in the kitchen for,a slice of pizza and a couple of the,other girls there came up to me and said,that Heidi wanted to play Seven Minutes,in Heaven with me,if you never played it Seven Minutes in,Heaven is a game where you and someone,of the opposite sex are put in a dark,closet for seven minutes with the,assumption that you'd be making out with,each other no questions asked for the,whole time you're in there,I had my suspicions that I might be,falling for a prank,but my love for Heidi was too strong,they led me to a walk-in closet over,stuffed with winter coats told me Heidi,was already waiting for me in there and,they shoved me in,there was no way to lock the closet from,the outside so someone sat against the,door and blocked it with their weight,it was Pitch Black in there and smelled,like dust and mothballs I whispered,Heidi's name,and then I felt her arms around me and,her hair falling on the back of my neck,it whispered in my ear,and my whole body broke out with,goosebumps,I felt her hands all over me squeezing,me tightly,sometimes painfully,she kept breathing panting in my ear,it was weird but I'm not gonna lie,I loved it,and then someone flung the closet door,open wide flooding it with light,I saw that everybody at the party was,huddled around the door laughing at me,with these big stupid grins on their,face,and to my shock,I saw that one of them was hiding,I said wait,if Heidi was out here the whole time,then who the hell was in the closet with,me,they all laughed harder and said no one,was in there with me,that was the whole point of the prank,I turned on the closet light and,searched around nothing but coats and,shoes,my face must have turned pale because,someone finally asked me what had,happened,and I told them,they could tell by my expression that I,wasn't putting them on,no one was laughing now,Heidi started sobbing uncontrollably,she cried so hard that she spent the,rest of the party in the bathroom,throwing up,hi,it got chilly in here didn't it,huh,well I'm certain there's a cure for that,in the kitchen,I wonder how the cake is coming along,that's gonna be fun to clean up so I'm,not going to list the individual amounts,of ingredients for this icing like I,said I'm gonna go ahead and just link it,down below I promise you this this,recipe is amazing first you add your,cream cheese to the Bowl,and then you just beat it a little bit,until it is creamy I did soften this for,a little bit in the microwave you don't,want to go too crazy because you don't,want it to melt so next you're going to,add your powdered sugar,and your vanilla,and then you're supposed to beat this on,medium speed for about two minutes until,the sugar and the cream cheese are all,combined,already this looks so much better than,the other one I'm supposed to turn the,mixer back on low and then I'm going to,stream in my heavy cream,so now that I have all the heavy cream,in there I'm supposed to turn this up to,high speed for one to two minutes until,stiff peaks form here's the finished,product it's like not heavy there's not,even there was only three quarters of a,cup of confectioners sugar in this so,it's not like heavy or grainy or,anything it's so light and it's like not,overly sweet so you've got that like,nice mix it's like a very somehow light,but still Rich icing with like the,whipped cream and the cream cheese so I,can't say enough good things about this,please please go visit simply Wendy she,has a great Channel she's an amazing,Baker thank you again Wendy,we've all heard the ritual of gazing,into a mirror to summon Bloody Mary or,some other,malign Spirit on Halloween but there are,other such games and rituals one can,play with the aid of mirrors,for example stand alone before a mirror,there by the light of a candle comb your,hair,the face of your lover be that lover,alive or dead will appear in the glass,peeping over your shoulder there is also,the ritual of the mirror and apple which,works best in houses or other locations,known to be haunted stand in front of a,mirror in a dimly lighted room and begin,eating an apple if the spirits in the,home are friendly towards you one will,appear behind you,just over your right shoulder,and ask for a bite of the Apple if the,spirits be unfriendly none will appear,but the Apple will be snatched from your,hand with a violent rudeness,in my hometown when I was growing up we,didn't have Bloody Mary I mean that just,wasn't a story anyone ever told,but we did have something similar we had,Carrie and Kathy,they call her carrion Kathy because as a,ghost she kind of looks a bit like,roadkill or rotten meat,fun fact one of October pod's earliest,episodes was inspired by this Legend,Kathy's backstory is kind of stupid,she lived in a nice-ish house with her, parents you know real corporate,ladder climbers,The Story Goes that Kathy's birthday was,either on Halloween or Friday the 13th I,could never keep it straight,anyways one year her parents,forgot her birthday her sweet 16,Kathy who wasn't all there mentally flew,into a rage,she killed her whole family with her,dad's shotgun and then slit her wrists,with a razor,she bled out and died on the couch right,next to her dead parents,but not before writing happy,birthday to me on the bathroom mirror in,her own blood,the house was abandoned but it still,stands mostly and everybody calls it the,happy birthday house,now Legend has it that if you go to the,Happy Birthday house and look in that,bathroom mirror and chance happy,birthday to me five times Carrie and,Kathy will appear right behind you in,the mirror and either kill you or drag,you to hell,allegedly,so on Halloween night during our senior,year me and my friends thought it'd be a,good idea to find the house and salmon,Kathy,the house was creepy AF and looked just,the way you'd expect,it had two bathrooms and the mirrors and,both had been broken however kids had,spray painted happy birthday on,every wall of the house,at the time I thought the story was a,lot of horsesh so I volunteered to be,the one to look in the mirror,we knew the mirrors in the house would,be broken so we brought our own,it was just past midnight and there were,no lights other than a weak flashlight,we'd brought,I propped the mirror against the,bathroom sink and said the words five,times and of course nothing happened,we all went home that night feeling a,little foolish and a little disappointed,but,very stoned,guess I forgot to tell you that part,weird things started to happen the next,day,I got out of the shower and got the,shock of my life when I saw the,reflection of a girl standing right,behind me in the bathroom mirror,her skin was gray and her hair was,matted and,she was looking at me with these black,eyes filled with hate,and her face,Jesus Christ I can't even describe it,but,it looked like the personification of,death and decay,I rolled around but there was no one,there,I saw her again the next day in the,rearview mirror of my car as I was,backing out of the driveway,she must have been close enough to to,touch my bumper,that night I caught sight of her in a,big mirror behind the dining room table,she was staring at me from the foyer at,the bottom of the stairs,I saw her at least once every day for,the next week,each time she was a little farther away,until the day she didn't appear at all,when I went home to college she had,appear to me whenever I went home for,holidays or between semesters,it got so bad that I started covering,the mirrors in my room and bathroom,to this day I still see her sometimes,and always whenever I visit my parents,house,it scares me,every time,I don't think I'll ever get used to,seeing her face,it's Times Like These I can't shake the,feeling that I'm being,watched,speaking of which let's watch Anna's,Halloween cake begin to take shape and,we may have a lopsided ghost I mean,let's be honest here it's not going to,be like Bakery quality work but that's,not what I'm going for I'm going for fun,Slide the cut Corners down the sides to,about the center of the cake sliding the,cut Corners down my ghost is looking,like Mothman or like like a bat,kind of looks like a bat turn the,corners so the cut sides are up corners,like that or like oh my gosh okay I get,it that makes sense because it's kind of,like hey make the arms look as if,they're reaching for you,spooky okay I get it now I had to read,that a few times but I get it and it's,fun and it's common for you might be a,very sad,ghost as long as it tastes good that's,what matters right kind of nervous about,these little arms a little frosting Paws,I'm not winning prizes for this,the arms are like especially fiddly I,would suggest that if you're a kid and,you want to make this get some adult,supervision but just not this one like,don't get this adult to supervise you,because it's not going to go very well,thanks Anna I can't wait to see the,finished product,Shadow play shadow play makes for,splendid party games at Halloween Shadow,buff for example is a game specially,suited for a large party a white bed,sheet or a white tablecloth is first of,all stretched across the room and on a,table behind it is placed a bright lamp,all the other lights in the room are,then extinguished,one of the players takes a seat upon a,low stool midway between the lamp and,the sheet the other players Endeavor to,disguise themselves as much as possible,by distorting their features rumbling,their hair wearing wigs false noses Etc,and pass one by one behind the player,Seated on the stool the Shadows are thus,thrown upon the sheet the AIM seated,player is to guess the identity of the,shadows as they pass before him or her,and the aim of the others is to Endeavor,by every means in their power to keep,from being recognized,a few years ago I was traveling alone on,business teaching a corporate ethics,course for a bunch of our offices in the,Deep South,I had a few days to spare while I was in,Louisiana and decided to spend some time,in New Orleans,I booked myself a room in one of the,city's many historic hotels,I've been asked not to name it though,the room was one level below the top,floor it had a great View and looked,super comfy after a long shower I walked,to the Garden District for dinner I,think that's the prettiest side of Nola,far removed from the beads and the booze,of Bourbon Street and just beautiful Oak,shaded streets with historic homes all,lined with intricate wrought iron gates,and fences magical,when I got back to my room my television,was on although I had thought I had,turned it off no big deal I switched,channels to a true crime documentary and,set out the beignet I had brought back,from the cafe for late night snacking,the ice bucket was dry so I stepped out,of the room to go fill it with fresh,eyes when I stepped inside it was dark,and silent,both the overhead light and the night,side lamps were off as was the TV there,had been rumbles of distant Thunder all,night so I figured it was just a little,power surge I put the lights back on,turned the TV back on but no channels,were coming in they were all blue,screens so I switched it off turned to,my beignet and read a few chapters of a,book before calling it a night I turned,off the overhead lights and left the,bedside lamp on the lowest setting and,readily fell asleep,I woke up in the middle of the night to,the crash of thunder and lightning,overhead since I was awake I quickly,used the restroom and then headed back,to bed,in the short time I'd been out of it all,of the Linens had been rolled off my bed,and now lay on the floor at the base,including the fitted sheet all rolled,together not simply thrown in layers,I was only half awake at this point so I,told myself that I must have done all of,this when I was getting out of bed,groggy as I was it seemed plausible that,I could have done that and not,remembered my TV was still off my door,was still closed and locked and even the,nightstand light was still on,I was frustrated because I certainly,didn't feel like remaking a king-sized,bed in the middle of the night but shy,of any other good option it appeared I,would be I painstakingly remade the bed,folded the heavy comforter at the bottom,since I embarrassingly worked up a,little bit of a sweat from the task and,laid under the sheets,at this point I was awake enough to try,the TV but I wouldn't turn on this was,weird since my light was still on as was,my little alarm clock but see above,whatever I closed my eyes just long,enough to doze when a strong fragrance,startled me it was so intense it felt,like it was in my nose and in my mouth,it was vaguely floral but artificial and,all but nauseating,I sat up with my nose wrinkled and cut,my hand over it trying to figure out,what it was and where it was coming from,and as I did I watched the heavy folded,comforter get pulled at a slight angle,and fall completely off the foot of the,bed,I immediately crawled after it and went,as far as to extend a hand to try to,grab it before it hit the ground,it was too late as it was crumpled to,the carpet and from underneath I saw,long golden brown curls stretched across,the floor as well,I a hundred percent raised backwards,crab style to the top of the bed and,plastered myself against the headboard,not breathing,still surrounded by that sickening smell,and seriously thought I might die from,The Unexpected site,I didn't but I nearly did again one,second lighter when the Thunder rolled,and lightning flashed outside my window,in the alley again,my lights stayed on thank God but I did,scream thank you,there was one last small power surge my,light flickered but didn't go out and my,television turned on,to the same blue screen as before,but in the second the lamp and TV,flickered I swore I saw a shadow of a,woman hair down dress facing away from,me just at the foot of the bed,after several minutes the blue screen of,the TV changed back to the cable footage,and I heard the rain slow,then stop,I leaned over to the other side of my,bed,the presumably unhaunted side,and turned on that lamp too it was three,in the morning and I had the TV blaring,and two and two lamps on and that's how,I stayed until about 6 am,who spooked to close my eyes,all that talk of Beignets is making me,hungry let's see if Anna is ready to,serve up that Halloween treat she's been,working on so you know I think we're,kind of there,you can see it but now we're gonna do,the fun fun part and that is the eyes,and the mouth I think I'm gonna do like,a little o yeah okay this is cute this,is cute so out of these eggshells I have,to choose the best ones,oh my gosh yes,this is the best part this is the best,part oh my gosh,so what you do next is you take two,sugar cubes one for each eye you drop,them in,the eggshells,like this so there's two there's one in,each grab your lemon extract and it says,like a teaspoon I'm not even gonna,measure this because it's not for flavor,at all you're gonna put a little bit on,each sugar cube whoops,I might have gotten some on the cake,there's just gonna be a little bit of a,lemony flavor on that piece here is the,really fun part and I hope this works,you're gonna light these on fire,that's where the flaming eyes come in,okay yes it is on fire I don't you know,I should have done this at night because,I don't think you can see it but you can,smell you can smell that burning,eggshell I'm gonna replace that one we,did it kind of oh no I'll just let that,go for now so that's it that's my ghost,with flaming eyes I can kind of see why,maybe I didn't make this when I was a,kid oh boy those do
